The late Mr. Schmidt was born in Hamburg, Germany, in 1826. He married in 1855 and in the same year emigrated to Australia, arriving in Brisbane in 1856 after a voyage lasting about six months. He went inland and worked on various stations. When the gold diggings broke out he was one of the few who remained behind. After eleven years’ residence in Queensland he came over to New South Wales and for 13 years was employed on Yallaroi and Tullona Stations. In 1880 he purchased a farm at Nullamanna, where he resided until five years ago. During the land boom the prevailing he sold out and has since been living with members of his family.
