Hello Albert, yes, they are the same. The German name is SCHLESIEN, the English SILESIA. Graeditz, or better Gräditz, today Grodziszcze, Poland, former in the Kreis (county) Schweidnitz, belonged to Lower Silesia. Reichenau, here it becomes difficult. There is one Reichenau City in the county of Frankenstein and a Reichenau town in the county of Glatz. HOFFMANN is a very common name, but have you tried the Silesian mailing list? Maybe someone there may be able to help you! By the way, I have Carl Heinrich HOFFMANN, 1850-1918, oo to Lina Frieda BUSCH, who migrated to Australia in 1899 and died in Brisbane. He first was married to a Marie KREIS, they had 3 children. Happy hunting Tina > I am looking to learn if SCHLESIA and SELISIA are the same place. > The persons concerned named Hoffmann were born in GRAEDITZ, SCHLESIA. > The Hoffmann family on my tree came from SILESIA.
