    1. Re: Muller and Müller
    2. Mr Kerry Muller
    3. Hi Bev, This is a very grey area, and apparantly an area that was kept very quiet within the family, and from what I know, a lot of the family do not know about it. Herman MULLER was my GGfather. His mother was Friederike Ernestine Wilhelmine MULLER, and his father is unknown. A fellow researcher on the MULLER name, and a distant relative of mine advised... "I could not find the birth of Harry Muller for ages, we were told none existed as he was supposed to have been born on the ship coming here. Then one day, I was talking to my husband mother and she let drop that really her father's mother's name was MOHNS. I looked up the B.D. &M., and there it was!!! There is another story also, which I think can be discounted - Fredericke was supposed to come to Australia with her parents (Mother anyhow) but was in love with a high-ranking army officer, so became pregnant so she could stay in Germany. However, he was born on 13 June 1884 and the ship "Waroonga" sailed from Hamburg on 26 June 1883 - work it out for yourself..." The "Waroonga" sailed from Hamburg on 26 June 1883 and then went to Portsmouth from where it sailed on 22 November, 1883 and arrived in Cooktown 8 January, 1884. Herman would have been conceived about September 1883, so this would have been either on board ship or during the stopover at Portsmouth. In addition to the above she advised... Friederike is evidently the illegitimate daughter of Dorothea Louise Mohns who married Christian Friedrich Wilhelm Muller in Germany. Not sure whether used the name of Muller or Mohns. Jean Harm of Gympie advised she received some information from Germany which was sent to a Karen Muller who she lost track of. The original letter was in German, and a friend of hers transcribed it for her. "...Friederike Ernestine Wilhelmine Mohns born 21.4.1856 out of wedlock. Mother Luise Mohns, daughter of day labourer Christian Mohns. There is no record about the father..." This one is a tricky one I am still trying to find information on. None of my direct family know anything about it. If you find out any useful information, I would be very greatful. 1. Schafferius, Germany to Plymouth
    2. Fay Mumme
    3. Hello everyone, My ancestor, Albert Schafferius, sailed from Plymouth on the 'Silver Eagle' on 10th Feb 1880. I have the book from Maryborough Family Heritage Institute that gives information about the journey. I now want to try to find out about Albert's trip from Germany to Plymouth - he was one of only seven full paying passengers, the rest being Assisted, Free, Free Nominated and Remittance. Can anyone give me any advice about where to start looking for the ship that probably took him to Plymouth. His mother and two younger siblings had already migrated to SE-Qld three years earlier on the 'Charles Dickens'. Albert was a young man, already having left home, who worked for a landlord and had an accident that robbed him of the use of one arm. He came from Danzig, West Prussia. Because of his damaged arm, I'm thinking he possibly wasn't eligible for an assisted passage. He perhaps had to work to be able to pay his own way to join his family. I'm not sure what the rules were. Any advice about where to find information on this, or assistance from others' similar experiences in researching their ancestors in similar circumstances will be much appreciated.
