Hi Everyone, I have been corresponding with Alice from Denmark. Has anyone on our lists come across these names please? I have no other way to help her, and was hoping that SKS has come across some of these names and would respond directly to Alice who is not a list member. Thank you everyone for your help, as I know in the past we have helped each other whenever possible. TIA Lorrae -----Original Message----- From: Alice K. My first guess was that Wilhelmine's maiden surname is spelled Sommerfeld, because that name is present in Denmark, Netherlands, Germany, Preussen, Poland and Russia. Later it turns to a more English way of spelling, I guess. I have been searching via Internet Rootsweb, Genealogy.com, yahoo, jubii etc. hoping to find more info of Morten and his family. I guess grandchildren of Morten and Wilhelmine are still living in Australia; it could be nice to get contact, share pictures etc. with family. A daughter of Morten Madsen's sister is still living in Denmark, 84 years old, I long for telling her of the Australian family. I had a look at www.firstfamilies2001.net.au <http://www.firstfamilies2001.net.au > and found a Wilhelmine Sommerfeld, mother: Caroline Hentschel, married to Martin Sommefeld, who adopted the children of Caroline. The family came from Preussen to Qld in 1861. If Wilhelmine was 26 years old in 1861, say born in 1835, could it then be her marrying Morten, born in 1855? Hønborg Subject: RE: Morten Madsen Hi Alice From the CD for Queensland BDM, there is the following records: Morten MADSEN married Wilhelmine SOMMERFELD 23 Oct 1879 (Ref: 1879/ 000769). There are also four births registered to the couple (until 1889 only - there may be more after this date, but I do not have easy access to the microfische) [NOTE spelling of parents names] MADSEN: Frederick, born 27Mar1881 (Ref: 1881/ 000553) [Moreton MADSEN & Wilhelmina SOMMERFIELD] George Herman, born 05Aug1886 (Ref: 1886/ 006587) [Morten MADSEN & Wilhelmine SOMMERFIELD] Anna Katrina, born 21Sep1888 (Ref: 1888/ 001070) [Morton MADSEN & Minnie SOMMERFIELD] MADSON: Charles, born 31Jul1883 (1883/ 000678) [Morten MADSON & Wilhelmine SUMMERFIELD] The variant in the spelling of the names would suggest they were illerate.
