I have always just used the Professional Ancestry File Software which is supplied free by the LDS. I am not "into it" all the time, so do not see the need to buy one of the better software programs. What are people's views on the free software supplied by myheritage.com Thanks Kerry Muller Melbourne
To all who helped with the Muller lookups, I would like to thank you very much. Regards Kerry Muller Melbourne
Hi Jean Herman is my Great Grandfather as well. The "Waroonga" sailed from Hamburg on 26 June 1883 and then went to Portsmouth from where it sailed on 22 November, 1883 and arrived in Cooktown 8 January, 1884. Herman would have been conceived about September 1883, so this would have been either on board ship or during the stopover at Portsmouth. Pretty sure I read a newspaper article on Trove which indicated they were in Portsmouth for some time. I thought I saved it but cannot find at the moment. Herman was also known as Harry MILLER Kerry Muller -----Original Message----- From: aus-qld-se-germans-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-qld-se-germans-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Bob & Jean Harm Sent: Monday, 27 September 2010 5:53 AM To: aus-qld-se-germans@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [SEQ-Germans] Lookup Pleeeeaaaassse Lorrae. Thanks for your query. The death certificate was informed by her son Wm. H. Brown, Boonah. She came (obvious pregnant) on the ship "Waroonga" arriving 8 January 1884, to Queensland under the name MULLER, but on 13 June 1884 she gave birth at Minden to my husband's grandfather Hermann, under the name MOHNS. I have this birth certificate. 1884/C6252 Hermann Mohns Friederike Mohns This is taken from the Qld Historical Records site. However, Hermann was always known as MULLER. What a mixup!!!. Fredericke obviously changed her name to Muller for convenience at times, but I cannot find where it was legally changed.. Perhaps she never told her children of the facts. I am only going on what information I have obtained by Qld certificates over the years, and direct information from Germany. Lorrae. Forgot to add in my last email, that all this information was confirmed by my late mother-in-law, the daughter of Hermann MULLER and his first wife Wilhelmine STIBBE. Bob's mother said Herman never had a birth certificate because he was born on the ship, but I found it under MOHNS. This surprised everyone, so sometimes the truth can be tampered for sake of propriety. There was a long story about Fredericke becoming pregnant before they left Germany, but this was proved incorrect. Jean Harm

Hi Jean I checked the Deaths on the Qld BDM on-line, https://www.bdm.qld.gov.au/IndexSearch/BirIndexQry.m and located this entry - 1947/B10237 Friederike Brown Christian Muller Louisa Mohns Therefore, whoever registered her death did not know that Christian MULLER was not her father, but merely her mother's husband. They also reported that her mother was Louisa MOHNS, so if you have the certificates, was it completed by one of her children, or another person? The death certificate is the most unreliable certificate as it is not checked against birth or marriage details and the informant can unknowingly add anything they like....but it can give you some good leads. This site is free unlike Ancestry.com. I would agree about the Ancestry indexes. Not all are correct. They seem to have extra names added, but no less are a help as they are Australia wide and I have found some missing persons that i had been looking for for quite a while...particularly in Victoria and Tasmania. Most Surnames must have been listed somewhere on certificates as most deaths show surnames that have a bearing to the deceased. Many of the shipping accounts were reported in newspapers. Most of you will know about the national newspapers archives online at [1]http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home Following is an account of the La Rochelle's arrival 7 August 1863. Amongst the passengers were my great grandfather, his sister and her husband. The Courier (Brisbane, Qld.), Monday 10 August 1863, page 2 LA ROCHELLE. The ship La Rochelle, 527 tons, arrived in Brisbane on Friday, the 7th instant, after a very excellent run of 8l days from Hamburg, she having sailed from that place on the l8th of May (??). She is under the command of Captain E. Jungo, who, we may mention, was her master on her previous visit to this port. On this occasion she brings 444 German immigrants to our shores. They are under the medical charge of Dr. Geiger. On board this vessel, as on board the Alster, there has been but little sickness during the passage, with no contagious or infectious disease. There were six deaths of infants, who died of maladies incidental to child hood. Three of the deaths were from convulsions, two from atrophy, or wasting away, with one from consumption. There were no births. In the saloon there is only one passenger -Mrs. Amelie Dietrich. La Rochelle brings 40 rams, of the celebrated Negretti breed, consigned to Mr. Tam, of South Brisbane, and 2500 fire-bricks as ballast. Mr. T. C. Heusslcr is the Brisbane agent for both the Alster and La Rochelle. Dr. Hobbs, the health officer, visited and inspected the above vessels on Saturday last, and has found the passengers in a perfectly healthy state, he passed the ships with clean bills of health. The immigrants will therefore be brought up to town as soon as arrangements can be made for their conveyance to Brisbane. Mrs Dietrich was employed by the ships owners to gather samples of Queensland flora and fauna to take back to a museum in Hamburg.
