    3. To answer my own question, and for the sake of the archives of this list, I have found the place thanks to http://www.kartenmeister.com They listed two places of the name Belfort, and the one in Kreis Bütow is what I was looking for. Belfort, Kreis Bütow, Pommern 53.97, 17.58 There appears no habitation there now so there is no Polish equivalent name for the village. The region is now called Bytow, Pomorskie, Poland Regards, Jennifer http://colston-wenck.com -----Original Message----- From: aus-qld-se-germans-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-qld-se-germans-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Heinfried Daum Sent: Wednesday, 10 November 2010 2:36 PM To: aus-qld-se-germans@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [SEQ-Germans] Auguste Zischke nee Zimmermann died 1937 aged 80 Hi , there is a pleace called Belfort in Germany according to ShtetlSeeker Belfort populated place 52°31' N 11°01' E E M U G Germany 100.1 miles W of Berlin 52°31' N 13°24' E Hope this helps Patricia ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jennifer Crockett" <jcrockett@optusnet.com.au> To: "SEQ-Germans" <aus-qld-se-germans@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, November 10, 2010 11:45 AM Subject: [SEQ-Germans] Auguste Zischke nee Zimmermann died 1937 aged 80 >I have no connection to this person, but I am trying to help a friend find > her birthplace. > > > > What I was given was Belfort, Keslin, Prussia. 3. I have no connection to this person, but I am trying to help a friend find her birthplace. What I was given was Belfort, Keslin, Prussia. This is probably in Pomerania. Needless to say there is no Belfort. I have also seen Belforst. No place by that name either. Auguste Zimmermann arrived as a 23 year old on the Earl Dalhousie on 6 Feb 1880. Unfortunately British passenger lists of that time give only country of birth. Is there anyone connected with her that has a marriage certificate which might show her place of birth? She was married to Wilhelm Zischke on 20 April 1880. Regards, Jennifer http://colston-wenck.com

    2. Judy Webster
    3. Although I was initially sceptical, I have decided that Twitter (if used correctly) can be very useful for genealogy. I am in the process of writing an article with advice on this subject, but in the meantime here is what you can safely do *without* signing up to Twitter: 1. Go to http://twitter.com/JudyQld. 2. In the column on the right side of that page, click 'Favorites' to see some informative genealogy-related 'tweets'. Clicking links (which often start with http://bit.ly or http://tinyurl rather than www) will take you to Web sites that may interest you. Clicking on hashtags - links starting with # such as #genealogy - will bring up a list of tweets that include that term. If you already use Twitter for genealogy, let me know your @username so that I can read your tweets. 3. Hi Jean, I queried the Queensland BDM office regarding a similar query last year and they advised me that the death should be registered at the destination port where the ship was heading ( ie Germany). They also advised that it may also be registered at any next port along the way too, so you may need to look at any stops the ship made.
