Hi I am putting together an article on the relationship of the Kapernick family to the Bundaberg region and its history. I am trying to right an article of general interesting historical fact, woven into the history of the family, and something that would be of interest to anyone interested in local history and not just of the Kapernick family. This is for possible inclusion in local papers if they agree to print it. Several branches of the Kapernick family became associated with the Bundaberg district. Johann Ludwig "Louis" Zimitat b. JUl 1869 Deutsch Krone, Posen, Prussia d. 16 Jul 1921 Walla Crossing, Burnett River, Queensland, Australia married Marie Auguste Hermine "Ann" KAPERNICK b. 31 May 1872 Stendel, Angermuende, Brandenburg, Prussia d. 3 Jun 1933 in Bundaberg. Marie was the daughter of Wilhelm Friedrich Kapernick and Hermine nee SCHMIDT of Tallegalla, Queensland and Johann was the son of Johann Ludwig ZIMITAT and Auguste Albertine WILDE who farmed in the Zillmere area north of Nundah, Brisbane. The Zimitat family eventually purchased large areas of property on the Burnett River in the Walla Crossing/Wallaville area but 45 minutes from Bundaberg by car, becoming one of the largest producers of sugar in the district.
