    1. RE" message from Albert GRULKE"
    2. Beverly
    3. Dear Albert, Ever since my computer got infected by the Bad Trans Virus, I have had 'fun and games' trying to get the miserable thing off my computer. Still do not know if it has been removed - it keeps popping up and I have done all that the Virus Program asked. I also would like to add that there have been hundreds of bounced messages on my computer from the SEQ Germans. Perhaps if we wait a few days or even two weeks and then try again to see if we can contact each other. I decided to post this message to the list for two reasons: 1. it seemed less likely that it would bounce away from your computer and into cyberspace........ 2. I am sure that there are other people on the list who are having as much trouble as I am............and I wanted to let them know that we just have to ride this one out. sorry that your notes have been kicked back - I wonder how many of the emails i have sent out will make it? cheers, Beverly. Life on Earth is Expensive, but at least you get a free trip around the sun....... So wear a hat and enjoy the ride!

    1. Name change
    2. Marionne Diggles
    3. The brother of my g grandmother, surname Gegenwart(h), came to Australia with his mother and step-father (to be), all wrongly listed as Lipp, and later married under the name Ward. All this was a long time before the war, so I can only presume he anglicised his name because its pronunciation posed problems here. (After a long time searching, I am grateful to both Les Moreland and Jenny Paterson for their help in proving these name 'changes'.) My only problem now is - what happened to his mother (Margaretha) and her second husband, Georg Liebler? They seem to have disappeared off the face of the earth. Cheers Marionne

    3. Hi Jill, Remember me... I think you may have a couple of things mixed up here I think. Probably the easiest way for you to check is if I send you a GEDCOM of my research. It is quite extensive, so sorry about the file size. This sounds like my MULLER line and OUR BERLIN side. In summary - Christian Friedrich MULLER (b20.10.1833 Bagemuhl d. 10.11.1915 Engelsberg) married Dorothea Louise MOHNS (b. 3.7.1836 Bagemuhl d. 4.9.1905) Children were - Frederike Wilhelmine Ernestine (my GGGmother) Maria Magdelene Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Christian Friedrich Wilhelm Charlotte Friedrike Wilhelmine Anna Marie August Ferdinand Friedrich Wilhelm August Friedrich Wilhelm The Anna Maria MULLER who you have below is actually from another MULLER line. Her parents are August Johann Christian MULLER & Auguste Louise Albertine PETER from Schmolln Prussia. Annie MULLER married Friedrich Wilhelm Carl BERLIN - son of Christian Friedrich. Sarah Elizabeth MULLER is another line again. I do not have any information on her family though. A lot of this is 3rd hand so still requires verification, but it came from several researchers and matched up. There are still lots of gaps and grey areas though. 1. Surname Spellings
    2. Glen Hall
    3. I was interested to read about the variations in the speellings of some surnames. This can cause a hell of a lot of problems in research as I have found out..... My Prussian Ancestors that came to Australia on the "Eugenie" in 1873 were Ignatz ZELINSKI and Anna KUGASKI. They then settled in Tarampa. ZELINSKI has been found under records under the various variations ZIELINSKI ZIELINSKY ZELIMSKIE ZELINSKE GELINSKI GOLINSKI CHELINSKI Makes it hard checking records certainly...The GELINSKI GOLINSKI surname seems that it may have been due to the Z's being written down to look like G's...I am reliably informed there is one part of the family who still use the name GOLINSKI however i havent been able to tie them in yet. My great great great Grandmother Anna KUGASKI is a bigger headache...I am not certain that is her correct surname it has been written as KUGASKI KUGANSKY Hannah KUGASKI KOYAFSKI CRUARSKI KAJEWSKI KUJAWSKA I guess since a lot of government officials also transcribed details how they were phonetically sounded would cause the differences as well as Ignatz supposedly being unable to read or write...... Anyway I point to note when researching those long lost Prussians Glen Hall from a warm Pleystowe NQ www.geocities.com/hallybum/index.html

    3. Hi Peter, Christian Friedrich Wilhelm BERLIN was born in Fergitz, Uckermark, and when he left Germany the ships records said he was from Blankenburg. His wife was Wilhelmine Auguste STRASSBURG and she was born in Blankenburg. They were married in about 1850 in Blankenburg as well. 2. Mr Kerry Muller
    3. Hi All, I have a few gaps in the MULLER side, so if someone could possibly check the following in BDM's any information would be appreciated. The information I have below was passed on to me 3rd hand and I would like to verify and hopefully obtain some more information - it is a very tricky one. My GGfather was - MULLER, Herman; b. 13 June, 1884 Rosewood Scrub, d. 22nd July, 1965 Kalinga (I understand birth was registered as MOHNS as he was illegetimate) married 3 times (I think) STIBBE, Annie Wilhelmine 12 Jan 1903 (my GG mother) MULLER, Louise Elizabeth 26 July, 1915 (they were also first cousins once removed) FREIER, Maude May 18 July 1962 I do not know Herman's father, and mother was - MULLER, Friederike Ernestine Wilhelmine b. 21 Apr 1826 Bagemuhl, Uckermark d. 2 Feb 1947 (once again, Ricka was illegitimate and may have gone under HER mothers maiden name of MOHNS). She married James Rodgers BROWN 21 Jul 1886 In summary - Christian Friedrick Wilhelm MULLER came to Australia with Dorothea Luise MOHNS in 1884. Dorothea's illigitemate daughter prior to marraige with Christian was Friedericke Ernestine Wilhelmine MOHNS/MULLER Friedericke's illegitemate son prior to marraige with James Rodgers BROWN was Herman MOHNS/MULLER who was my GGfather. He used the name MULLER & MILLER My Grandparents used MULLER. Told you it was a tricky one. 3. Thanks Lorrae, The information Jill Tumes has, I already have. I was trying to get some more feedback on the name in the hope I would stumble across something new. Jill was actually the first person who got me involved in this acutely addictive research we are all obsessed with. Jill was a wonderful help to me in my early days of research. Lets get back to some serious research. I was wondering if anyone out there has any information on the BERLIN family who originally settled in Tallegalla and then Marburg, Qld. >From what I can find out, all Berlin's appear to be all descended from the one family who came to Australia on the Wandrahm which arrived 12th January, 1866. BERLIN, Christian Friedrich b. 7th Oct 1822 Fergitz, Prussia; d. 27th Mar 1903 Tallegalla, Qld married abt 1850, Blakenburg, Prussia to STRASSBURG, Wilhelmine Auguste b. 17th Jan 1826 Blakenburb, Prussia; d. 29th Mar 1902 Tallegalla, Qld. I have a fair amount of information, but as always, we would like to find out more. Thanks in advance. Kerry Muller Melbourne ______________________________

    3. I want to track down records for german settlers, born, and or married, before arriving in Aust.I am not having much luck with latter day saints, and what pointers, if any from the naming of children, may indicate, the state in germany they originated from. eg., family name 'blankenburg' seems to indicate a connection with the Counts of that name? right ,or, wrong? js4815@free2air.com.au Any info could prove helpful.

    3. Hello Paul, for East Brandenburg (it is the Neumark) gives it a mail list and also a database via 100000 entries. Your surname Hatfield would be able to also come from Germany, would be able to come from the name Hartfield, this manag in northern Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Strelitz before. There is also researcher to this families in Germany and the USA. I have too some memos to this. greetings from germany Peter Woddow

    3. I know there has been a lot of talk about virus but this may help some people. One of the recent Viruses come in as an ordinary email. When you click to open the email NOT the attachment it automatically opens up your address book and then you will lose it all. I was told how to stop this happening. Open up your address book and click on new contact. Insert here under first name !000 ( that is exclamation mark and 4 zeros (make sure you do not use the capital O) and click okay. This comes up as your first entry in your address book and the virus cannot get past it. Believe me this works because no sooner had I put it into my address book than the next time I downloaded my messages, this happened to me and I did not lose my address book. 3. > 1. CHRISTIAN FREDERICK2 BERLIN was born 5 October 1822 in Brandenburg, Hello, where is Christian borne Friedrich Berlin in the country or the city Brandenburg? I have the family Berlin in my ancestor line from Falkenhagen in the ring Prenzlau. The name Berlin gives it much in the northern Uckermark, Schlepkow, Hetzdorf and Jagow. They were mostly from the profession shepherd. greetings from germany Peter Woddow

    3. Hello, the name Blankenburg often comes in Brandenburg before. It is also correct that it a noble family "von Blankenburg" gave that had Strelitz properties in the Uckermark and the Mecklenburg. They have some references, from where theirs families Blankenburg come would be able be. My wife has this name in the ancestor line in the Barnim, that directly at the Uckermark in the south border. Me emigrants are also confessed to the USA. From the fact have I might unite recordings to this family. greeting from germany Peter Woddow

    3. Hello Albert An excellent history of the founding of Bethania can be found on the Bethania Settlers website at http://home.wanadoo.nl/wouter.busnach/bethan.htm . This article was published in the 1940s as reminiscences of Carl Holzheimer either (1881-1950) or his father (1852-1926). It was found by Les Moreland and republished in the 125th anniversary publication 'Bethania, the early years'. It states that whilst this group of settlers were 'Old Lutherans', unhappy about the union of the Prodestant churches (Lutheran & Calvinist) into a state church, the overwhelming reason for the emigration was economic. This was brought about by industrialisation of the farming industry and overpopulation. It was becoming more difficult for the younger farming families to support themselves on smaller & smaller plots of land. Their options were to move to the cities or to look for new lands. At the time, both America and Australia were actively recruiting German/Prussian farmer families to populate their vast expanses. There were ancilliary factors including religious tensions, compulsory military service & the Prussian wars etc. but Les Moreland is convinced that the primary reasons were economic as Holzheimer stated it. Secondly, I note your reference to a Schneider ancestor. I don't appear to have your line in the Bethania tree which would seem to be somewhat of an omission. I would be very happy to correct this situation with your concurrence. 3. Beverly Edmonds, I cannot believe it! someone has actually unearthed one of my SCHULTZ names. Gustav Wilhelm Richard SCHULTZ b. 1885 married Martha Emma Kanowski in 1910. Gladys Dorothy SCHULTZ is their second child (they had 6). Gladys Dorothy married Alec DREWS but I have no more information on them. I assume, whether right or wrong, that they are dead by now but then one never knows if they are still alive at 90 yrs of age. thanks, Beverly Markham. Life on Earth is Expensive, but at least you get a free trip around the sun....... So wear a hat and enjoy the ride!
