    3. Hi Everyone, Feel like a bit of a fool asking this. I've gotten a bit disorganised. Normaally I write the source on the back of any photocopied info I recieve, but for some reason I haven't with some pages sent to me a while ago. I thought they may be the ones Bev sent me recently, but they do not match the text from "The German Presence in Queensland", emailed in earlier posting. Can anyone identify the source for me? Its from a textbook on the Lutheran Church in Queensland or Australia. Page 10 starts " In consequence of Mr Heussler's activities, many German Settlers..." 3. Hi List.. Could someone please tell me anything about the Marburg Archives in Germany...I have been advised by a lister on another list that my Friedrich Habermann from Eimelrod, is listed in the emigration records at the Marburg Archives. I have hired the two films at LDS for the emigration indices from Hessen Darmstadt..where he said he was born but could not find him.... I also hired the actual films of the emigration records.....but could not understand the names..(that's real desperation :-(( ..).. Could someone please tell me whether the information being at Marburg Archives is compatible with the information I've so far uncovered..as slim as it is...and whether there would be any other films of emigration records to hire for my ancestor... Thanks if you can help me... Gay

    1. Württemberg Index
    2. Ray Allum
    3. Dear Lisa, Denise & Albert, Thank you Albert for your excellent advice. This index only gives details of migrants intentions at the time of their "Application". No conformation is provided in these publications that the person ever arrived in the country nominated at the time of their application. There is a book titled "Destination Australia, Extracts from the Württemberg Index Volumes 1-5", by George Wieslaw Helon ISBN 064619160 8, published in 1994 by the Polish Genealogical Society of Australia, address: Post Office Box 2530 Bundaberg, 2670 Queensland. I do not know if a revised edition including Vol. 6-7 has been published by the PGSA. For those interested, perhaps this book can be borrowed from your local library through their inter library loan service. This book may be helpful, but only for volumes 1-5. Later volumes 6 & 7 contained more names of migrants who made application to come to Australia than all the earlier volumes. All volumes are availablie in book form as well as on CD-ROM. The CD DOES NOT have a destination search facility, which means one has to search by name or scroll through the entire index, one volume at a time! This is possibly why the WEI on CD is so cheap to purchase in the USA. It is a pity this CD is not more user friendly for those amoung us who collect data on German Immigration, such as provision for a keyword search e.g. place of origin or intended destination. My best advice is to wait until Ancestry have a free access trial period on line to the WEI,(they do from time to time). An easy check can then be made by using a keyword search, such as "Australien" or town name. This usually lists all entries containing the keyword. Further information and a breakdown of which oberaemter (District Towns) were included in each volume, is available on the CD-ROM or at <www.ancestry.com> I hope this helps. Elizabeth

    3. Hi there Lisa, Several of the names are listed as having gone to parts of America and not to Australia, These records ONLY deal with those who made Application to emigrate from Württemberg. Names for Australia are: Deuble, Holzwarth (lots), Uhlmann, (some are currently living in Ashfield, Sydney), Weiss & Weissmann. There is always the possibility some came from America, later. 1. What is the original source of the data on this CD-ROM? This CD-ROM is comprised of records from the seven-volume series entitled The Wuerttemberg Emigration Index, compiled by Trudy Schenk and Ruth Froelke. The records in this collection roughly span the years 1717-1917. (Number of records for each year and area vary; there are records included both before and after these dates, but they are sparse.) Although the majority of areas in Wuerttemberg are represented, use caution in assuming that any database is a "complete" set of records. Since the records cover 200 years and were originally compiled by a third party, it is difficult to absolutely verify the completeness and validity of the data. The information you find in this product is as correct as it was when Ancestry.com received it, and has merely been reproduced in an electronic format. Records indicate Names, DOB (sometimes), B/place, District, Date of Application, Destination, Ref Number Get back to me if interested. I will be away for 2 weeks from 12th Jan Albert Albert J Abel - Tamworth, NSW Australia albie@tpg.com.au

    3. for all of you that may have wiped this file. SULFNBK.EXE Hoax May 2001 This warning is a hoax. It was originally issued in Portuguese but some nice person translated it into English. The real sulfnbk.exe program is a Windows program that is used to restore long file names. You will find it in the \Windows\Command folder. Keep in mind that sulfnbk.exe, like any executable program, could be infected with a virus. You should regularly scan all the files on your system using a current antivirus scanner to insure that none of them contains a virus. Information on how to replace the sulfnbk.exe program, in case you deleted it, is available at the Symantic, McAfee, and other antivirus websites.
