    2. Bev Kerlin
    3. Hello all and particularly to those who are showing an interest in this subject - Phillip for one! Please let me be very clear on this subject. I DO NOT WANT SEQ GERMANS AND AUS-IRISH TO AMALGAMATE NOR DISAPPEAR - I WOULD DIE !!!!!!!! I have merely suggested that if we have Irish and German folk intertwined, why not send a copy of our mail to the other side, e.g. the GIESEMANN gentleman who belongs on SEQ Germans who married the HARRISON lady who belongs on AUS-IRISH. I am very interested in the German settlement around Bethania and the Logan. This is another example of where the industrious Germans and Irish worked side by side, exactly as they did in the Laidley areas. We seldom discuss Bethania and Logan, and Russell Greig will correct me if I'm wrong (pleeeease Russell?). My predicament is that all of these people are David's families - the Germans etc around the Lockyer Valley and the Irish in Beaudesert. I have a leg in both camps, so to speak. Hey out there! Anyone know any CANTLEs around Wynnum from Gloucester, or YOUNGSs around Sherwood from Norfolk, or COURTNEYs in Clayfield and DALTONs from Camberwell and Bucks? Oh well - I tried! Cheers Bev K.

Passing this on for you to read John A Hansen <jahansen@qwest.net> wrote: From: "John A Hansen" Date: Wed, 13 Feb 2002 20:35:23 -0800 Subject: [SWINTON] FW: New MSN Messenger Worm > Not Cool To: SWINTON-L@rootsweb.com Reply-to: SWINTON-L@rootsweb.com Dear All: Here is a real early warning of a new Virus fresh from the testing Labs. You already know about not opening attachments etc from people you don't know etc etc. The format of this new worm has been in development for some time and you have all heard me talk and write about it. So don't open any URL's that you don't know. The AV software programs may be late as well in getting updates out quick enough. But at least update your AV software 2 to 3 times a week for the next few weeks. I do mine daily. There is a scheduler on most AV software and I just have it set to automatically download the latest every night at 3 am. While the first pass here may only be a "show off" piece I have seen vicious programs with deadly payloads that really do some damage and obtain key info that is then forwarded to foreign locations. The first wave will probably be labeled xxxxx.cool.html So watch for the "cool" part first. Later the url will carry other words or links that are designed to appeal to you in some way. Our genealogy hobby will be wide open. Be suspicious. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that there isn'tsomeone out to get you. Being paranoid about virii may keep you out of trouble.. This wave of virus attempts may be around for awhile. Best Regards John A Hansen -----Original Message----- From: Drew Smith [mailto:drew@eastvan.bc.ca] Sent: Wednesday, February 13, 2002 5:10 AM To: incidents@securityfocus.com; bugtraq@securityfocus.com Subject: New MSN Messenger Worm Heya folks, Ok, let's try this again, with a little more time spent on my side. ;) Tried to submit this earlier today, but got bounced for attaching the worm source to the message. So, this time, I'm attaching a URL instead, where you can go get the source if you want to see it. This worm *ripped* through our office today - it's one part flaw in Microsoft's security model and one part social engineering; it is a NON-MALICIOUS worm, but it effectively proves the concept, and I don't foresee more than a week or two before there's a nasty version. We've been calling it the "cool worm", after the original filename, "cool.html". I said *ripped*. I meant it. 40 people affected/infected in under 30 seconds. That's the dangerous part, I didn't even have time to go to the other room to let coworkers know what was up. The worm shows up as an MSN Messenger message that says "Go To http://www.masenko-media.net/cool.html NoW !!!". The user, obviously, clicks the URL, which takes them to the site, where the malicious code sits. The code opens the MSN Contacts list, then messages every contact with the message "Go To http://www.masenko-media.net/cool.html NoW !!!". Think about that for a second. Anyhow - the worm does nothing nasty, but the source to the (now down) masenko-media.net site also mails the hostname and user agent of the connecting host to "mmargae@wanadoo.nl". Looks to me like an experiment that got loose from the lab, but it demonstrates a *dangerous* flaw. Why can a webpage open the contacts list in the first place? What other hooks does MSN Messenger provide? Can you harvest email addresses from a contact list? Too many scary implications. Worm source (with a few important lines removed, so that it doesn't start popping up *everywhere*), available at: http://riotnrrd.com/cool-source.zip Cheers, - Drew. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This list is provided by the SecurityFocus ARIS analyzer service. My MURPHY's were Roman Catholic, and my HEIDEMANN's Lutheran. Yet when my grandfather died (a Catholic), my grandmother (previously Lutheran) converted to a very devout Roman Catholic. The aspect of Catholic and Lutheran Germans has been raised some tim ago on the list. Thsi is a different twist on the same subject. Best Wsihes Phillip

    3. Ah yes. I am sure just as Christmas is still coming so to is the QLD Federation CD. I am also waiting for the CD version to be released even though I do have a fiche reader. There is something magical about putting in only the first three letters of an ancestors surname and doing a "wildcard" search and coming up with a couple of new births that were misspelt. Does anyone know more information about the mythical QLD Federation CD? Maybe we should nickname it the "Yowie" ie lots of reports but nothing really concrete ;-}}}} Cheers Neil ******************************************** Researching the names, ENGEL, HIGGINS, MANN, RYLAND, SATCHER, WENZEL(L), WILLIAMS from the SE QLD area. ****************************************** <SNIP> > 8. 3. I am still hoping for my Christmas list to be a "real go" in my genealogy. As far as the Germans and Irish lists becoming amalgamated - I think that they can peacefully co-exist. Each list serves a particular population and its needs. However, I do think that the suggestion that there be cross posting would be somewhat helpful to some people on both lists and I have no objection to cross posting - if the person doing so feels that it would be beneficial to either list. Either way, I am happy with the way the list is going...... and if anyone in Queensland can prod the Qld. Govt. along to put the BDM on CD I would count myself as being one of the happiest persons on this earth............ It would be even better if they would put them on the net like New South Wales has done.................. well, add this to my Christmas list too........ cheers, Beverly. Life on Earth is Expensive, but at least you get a free trip around the sun....... So wear a hat and enjoy the ride!

    3. Hi During my research on the Klein family of early Toowoomba I have found that one member of this family adopted the name of Cleins and lived in Alpha in Central Qld where he was a carrier. This person, Andrew Cleins, married Annie Josephine Sam in 1913 in Alpha. Andrew died intestate in 1915. In seeking possible beneficiaries, Qld Trustees Ltd had sought the whereabouts of two people - Georgina Sutherland and Mary O'Donnell. I have never heard of these two people in connection with the family and would appreciate any information on them. Thank you Ian Kelly Sandstone Point.

    3. Hi, everyone, Can I make a suggestion? It is a good idea to use your subject line wisely. It gives everyone an idea of what's in your message and people can choose to open it and read it if the topic is of interest to them. Many people who are on lots of lists just open only messages of interest to them. Yours may get missed if the subject of your message is not clearly displayed. I often use subjects like this: BROWN; INV, SCT abt1900 or SMITH; TYR, IRL>AUS 1913 or 1841 census lookup, please or where is Ballyshiel?. Hope this is of help. Regards Judy

    3. I too have Irish married to German on one family line in SE Qld, but I also have a lot of Irish-only branches in other family lines, where the marriages were into English and Devon families. I am on the list for Qld SE Germans as that is my only German connection, and a great list it is, and I am on the AUS-IRISH list for my other research. AUS-IRISH is not a particular active list, but has the occasional pearls of information. I personally can see no real reason for the lists to intermix. 1. I have old photos
    2. Coral Forbes
    3. Hi List, I have these old photos which belonged to my Great Grandmother CAROLINE KRAATZ nee LEBRENZ. They would have been taken in the late 1800's early 1900's. I know one is of my gggrandparents WILHELMINE and CARL AUGUST LEBRENZ One I am pretty sure is of MARGARET BERG but the others I dont know. They would probably be of my ggrandmothers family, which would include ZINK, MUSCH, KEYS, JENNER, MACLEAN, KRAATZ, BERG. Some are of young families, babies, teenagers, children, men. Two of the men were taken in Sydney, the other photos were taken in Brisbane, and one in Boonah. I was wondering how to find out who they are. Maybe someone on the list who is related to these people may have photos we could compare, I could scan them for you. Or if anyone knows of any members of the family who has old photos whom I could get in touch with, could you please let me know. I spent some time in Rockhampton over Christmas and while I was there I rang around the decendants of my Danish family (JEPSON) and was able to get photos of 3 of my grandmothers sisters, I had a wonderful time. That made me think I need to find out who these people are and pass them on to their descendants. Please get in touch with me if you are interested. 1. My Christmas Wish List
    2. Beverly
    3. All I want for Christmas: 1. Access to the papers my ancestors filled out to migrate to Australia. 2. To meet the nurse who filled out birth certificates and recorded my GGGrandmother's name differently with each child she brought into the world. 3. The ability to read German Handwriting on the microfilms. 4. Patience with myself when I cannot find my "elusive ancestors." 5. A genealogy program for my computer which will read my mind and fill in the correct information when my fingers make the mistake and hit the wrong keys. 6. A meeting with the town planner to find who makes the decisions to name the streets. 7. An accurately drawn map of the way things used to be when our ancestors first settled in Australia. 8. If I cannot have any of the above, then I would put in a bid to have the latest release of the microfiche that document the births and deaths and marriages that starts where the Pioneer Index leaves off. And I want it on CD. Dear Santa, I will leave loads of biscuits and milk for you if you could just fulfil my number 8 wish Thanks in Advance, Beverly. 3. Hi all, I am researching the VANDERSEE family. Originally there were in Charters Towers I believe and then settled further south. Is there anyone out there researching the same family? My husband's grandmother was Maria Bertha Matilda Vandersee born on the Reichstadt on the way to Australia in 1876 I believe. Her mother was Amelia or her father was Gottlieb or similar. The phone book has plenty of Vandersee names but haven't a clue whether they are related. Perhaps this might get a response. Kind regards, Loretta Everingham

    1. inherited illnesses
    2. Beverly
    3. Hello, I have been on the net looking at inherited illnesses and how devastating that they can be. In my family there is hemochromotosis, heart disease, thyroid problems and diabetes. I was wondering just how bad it may have become had my family stayed in Germany and continued to intermarry with the people of the village where they lived. How much more devastating would the above diseases have become if they had not migrated to Australia. I was also wondering about the children who had died before my ancestors went to Australia. Did these little babies suffer from some inherited disease? Perhaps they were untreatable in Germany and so they died. If they did have some inherited disease, then why did not more of the children born in Australia die? Perhaps it was because of the abundant fresh air, better living conditions and plentiful sunshine............. What are your thoughts? cheers, Beverly. Life on Earth is Expensive, but at least you get a free trip around the sun....... So wear a hat and enjoy the ride!
