    3. Hi Julie, I believe that a Beitz family tree is already in print. My husband works with a Bruce Beitz and once when we were discussing family trees he said that the Bietz side had been done. He is originally from that area. Regards Allison ----- Original Message ----- From: "J. 3. Hi Alan, Christian Friedrich BERLIN and Wilhelmine Auguste STRASSBURG are my GG Grandparents (from Marburg/Tallegalla). Christian was born in Fergitz and Wilhelmine was born in Blankenburg. They were also married Wilhelmine in Blankenburg. The shipping records for the Wandrahm which arrived 12 Jan 1866 showed - 344 Berlin, Chistian, Blakenburg, Preussen, Arbeiter 43 years 345 Wilhelmine 39 346 Wilhelm, 14 347 Christian, 11 348 Wilhelmine, 9 349 Carl, 6 350 Friedrich, 3 351 Auguste, 10 months I also have a copy of Wilhelmine Auguste STRASSBURG's death certificate, and her name is shown as Auguste, with father's name as Wilhelm STRASSBURG an overseer. Kerry Muller Melbourne ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alan Nitz" <anitz@optusnet.com.au> To: <AUS-QLD-SE-Germans-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 07, 2002 7:15 PM Subject: Strassburg-Nitz Hi sue This is a bit more of some notes I have made re the Rockhampton NITZ connection. You will notice that my research is directed towards the NITZ side of things rather than Strassburg. For many years I was led to believe that there was no connection between the Nitz family in Rockhampton area and our family. I was finally able to make a connection. Unfortunately those who insisted that there was no connection have all now passed on. I have not been able to establish any connection between the Strassburg family in Rockhampton and the one in the Marburg area. There are some who would like to claim a connection but until I have documentary proof I will not make any connection. My family history research has been neglected in the last twelve months but as I am now retired I hope to get myself going again. That is when we are not traveling in our caravan. We live in Brisbane (Aspley). Phone 3263 1126 if you wish to ring at any time. As I come across any more information I will send it to you. Regards. Alan THE STRASSBURG - NITZ CONNECTION. Christian STRASSBURG, son of Johann George Friedrich STRASSBURG and Marie SCHÖNBECK, was born about 1820. Dorothea Sophia NITZ, daughter of Johann Christian NITZ and Dorothea Elizabeth Louise REISNER, was born about 1811. Christian STRASSBURG married Dorothea NITZ at Fergitz, in the Uckermark area of Brandenburg, Germany, in about 1838. Dorothea NITZ before this marriage had two known children, Christian Friedrich Michael, born about 1835, and Maria Dorothea Henriette NITZ, born on 3rd February 1838. Christian and Dorothea had the following children, Johanne, born about 1838 or 1839, Caroline, born about 1845, Wilhelm, born about 1847, and Johan Georg Friedrich born on 2nd May 1851. Christian and Dorothea STRASSBURG and their children traveled to Australia on the ship 'Johann Cesar' arriving at Brisbane on 7th November 1863. The passenger list for this voyage shows the following. Passenger No. 44 Strassburg Christian, 43 years, Neuhof. 45 Strassburg Dorothea, 52 years, Neuhof. 46 Strassburg Maria, 25 years, Neuhof. 47 Strassburg, Johanne, 20 years, Neuhof. 48 Strassburg, Caroline, 18 years, Neuhof. 49 Strassburg, Wilhelm, 16 years, Neuhof. 50 Strassburg, Louise, 9 months, Neuhof. 51 Nitz, Christian, 28 years, Blankenburg. 52 Nitz, Emilie, 26 years, Blankenburg. 53 Nitz, Carl, 1 year, Blankenburg. There is a question regarding passenger No. 50, Louise. It is believed that she would have been the illegitimate daughter of one or other of the Strassburg girls. It has now been established that Christian Friedrich Michael NITZ married Emilie Auguste SCHULZ, the daughter of Friedrich SCHULZ of Seehausen, at Blankenburg, Germany, in 1862. Church records show that the mother of Christian NITZ was Dorothea Sophia NITZ. It would appear that Christian and Emilie had one child, Carl, before leaving Germany to emigrate to Australia. Emilie Auguste NITZ(SCHULZ) died on 19th July 1864. Christian NITZ later married Johanne RENNER at Rockhampton on 14th October 1871. They had the following children :- Helen Agnes, born 5th August 1872, (died 28th January 1874), Christina, born 12th January 1874, (died 22 April 1874), Frederick William, born 19th February 1875, Carl Wilhelm, born 27th March 1877, Albert Paul and Paul Harvey, born 25th September 1878, Emma Louisa, born 29th December 1880, Emil Oscar, born 25 May 1883, Wilhelm Frederick, born 11th December 1885. (Albert Paul NITZ died soon after birth and following his death the parents decided to change the name of the remaining twin, who was originally named Paul Harvey, to that of his deceased brother, Albert Paul. This became official in 1941 when it was changed by Deed Poll.) Carl Wilhelm NITZ married Florence Matilda BUTCHER on 14th October 1901. They had the following children :- Albert Edward and Carl William, born 10 November 1902, Florence Evelyn, born 4th November 1904, Frederick Christian, born 29 June 1906, Herbert James, born 11th November 1907, Claud Vincent, born 30th April 1909, Thelma Rita, born 21st July 1911. Albert Paul NITZ (Originally Paul Harvey) married Luise Wilhelmine Johanne GROSSKOPF on 2nd September 1908. They had the following children :- Winifred May, born 16th August 1909, Ernest Alfred, born 29th June 1911, August Charles, born 4th June 1913, Albert Paul, born 26th February 1917, Robert Harvey, born 31st May 1921, Stanley Herbert, born 2nd September 1923, Leo Clarence, born 11th May 1926. Emma Louisa NITZ married Samuel THOMASSON on 6th February 1907. Christian NITZ died on 9th December 1924 and was buried on 10th December 1924 at the Milman Cemetery near Rockhampton. Maria Dorothea Henriette NITZ (shown as STRASBURG on the ship passenger list) was born at Fergitz in the Uckermark region of Germany on 3rd February 1838. After arrival in Australia she married Christian HUNTS (or HANTZ) on 23rd November 1865. The records of this marriage are slightly misleading as Maria is recorded as Mary Ash STRASBURG and her husband's surname is recorded as HUNTS, but in other records as HANS or HANTZ. They had two children, Annie Caroline, born 26th August 1866, and Margareta Dorothy, born 31st July 1868. Christian HUNTS/HANS/ HANTZ died on 3rd April 1877. On 23rd March 1878 Marie HANTZ married Ferdinand TIEGS at Rockhampton, Queensland. They had one child, Emma, born on 28th April 1879, at Rockhampton. The birth record of this child shows the father's surname as TIGGS and the birth is recorded under the name of TIGGS, not TIEGS which is correct. Ferdinand TIEGS arrived in Australia on board the 'Fritz Reuter' in 1877. With him were his wife, Wilhelmina, and children Albert, Alricke, Friedrich,Bertha, and Franz. Wilhelmina died shortly after arrival on 13th January 1878. Emma TIGGS (TIEGS) married Joel (recorded as Joseph) PLUMB in Rockhampton on 1st May 1895. Emma and Joel had five children, John Joel Ferdinand (Joe), born 1896, George Sidney Charles, born 1899 or 1900, Josephine Myrtle, born 1902, Albert Bertram, and Joel. Josephine Myrtle married August James Henry BROWN on 29th December 1920. They had five children, James Henry, born 27th November 1921, Raymond George, born 10th November 1924, Myrtle Helen, born 27th October 1926, Moira Frances, born 3rd November 1930, Terence Edward, born 13th January 1931. James Henry BROWN married Jessie Margaret RUNCORN on 20th February 1948. They had three children, Susan Margaret, born 13th March 1952. Susan married Peter Stephen STENNING on 20th May 1972 and they have one child, Tegan Margaret, born 2nd July 1988. Rosalind Louise, born 20th June 1955. Rosalind married John JENKINS. There were no children of this marriage. Matthew James, born 1st July 1960. Matthew married Roshana MAY on 9th February 1991. They have two children, Zoe Mir, born 19th July 1996, Nathan James, born 15th March 1999. My question is .....is there someone out there who can check for an obit - or tell me the name of the newspaper I would need to look up and also - can someone in the area of the cemetery take a photo of the headstone for me?? I would be happy to cover costs of course. 1. MARBURG QUERY - a little off topic
    2. Bev Kerlin
    3. Hi All I have Lorrae's permission to submit this query to the List. I hope someone who knows the MARBURG area will be able to help my friend, Max Knight in New Zealand. His Great Grandfather was George KNIGHT who married Maria WAKELING in 1862 in Montacute Tasmania. WHERE DID HE/THEY ORIGINATE? They had three children who survived - George Frederick (b 20.08.1865 Bothwell, Tasmania), Gertrude and Albert (Max's Grandfather). Maria died in 1875, buried in Hobart, and the remainder of the family 'probably' moved to the area around Glen Innes in the 1880s. George Frederick married Jane CHARTERS in 1882 and by the mid 1890s, he and his family were living in Ipswich, Qld. as did Gertrude who married William HUND in 1893. Albert married in Hughenden in 1902. The other question is - is the SLAUGHTERMAN from MARBURG who died 08.02.1919, this George? The Death Certificate 19/000538 does not give the names of parents. J & H REED FUNERAL DIRECTORS Office & Chapel 63 Roderick Street, Ipswich Qld 4305 Phone 07 3812 2011 Any help or advice gratefully received. TIA Bev (who hopes she's got that right?!)

    3. I have George Henri (George Henry) GEISLER, son of Johannes (John) GEISLER, died 1899 in Warialda, NSW, who married Catherine Mary Sharpenborg in 1870. Catherine was born about 1826/7 in Germany, maiden name unknown, first mariage to unknown STAM(M), second to Francis SHARPENBORG (or the manu other variants such as Scharpenberg, Sharfenberg etc). Around 1868 George Geisler was at 'the Wattle Station' - source family notes. I do not know any more about origin etc of this Geisler. 3. Hi Everyone, Have had to put my German research aside for a time to concentrate on other committments. I do however like to keep an eye on the list, never know if somthing will be mentioned which is relevant to my research. Just a small request. Although simply hitting the reply button and typing in the text of your message is quicker, it reduces everyone's downloads if you take the time to delete the bulk of the previous message(s) and only leave that which is relevant to your reply. Hope I'm not being a pain, it's just frustrating to have to scroll through huge strings of messages which have already been posted in previous digests. It's great to see the list so active. Best wishes to you all. Janice N' _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com
