Hello Rhondda & Paul, German Station was the original name for the Brisbane Suburb of Nundah, where the Lutheran Gossner Missionaries settled in the 1850's and the old Nundah cemetary has many persons of German extraction interred there including many who had Streets and suburbs named after them on the Northside of town, Including the likes of Zillmann and Gerler. The Nundah historical society based in the Nundah BCC library has lots of info on the area as does the Aldermann for Northgate, Mr Kim Flesser, who is also a German decendant of the Flesser family that settled in the Logan area. Regards, Chris Sichter Subject: German Station Hello all, Can anyone direct us to find information regarding German Station during the 1860's? Thanks, Rhondda & Paul

Also, The rootsweb have a great archieve of all previous emails that have been sent to our list - http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/AUS/AUS-QLD-SE-Germans.html At the bottom of the page, use 'search' to allow rootsweb to search for your name for you, or use 'browse' to look at the emails, month by month. Hi all For some reason, hotmail.com addresses are having a major problem with rootsweb; actually that may be the other way around, but whichever, hotmail is rejecting rootsweb emails. Therefore, this is to advise that once an address has been 'bounced' three times, the address is automatically 'unsubscribed' by rootsweb. Earlier, I forwarded two emails from people who were subscribed, and I am expecting more. IF you are unsubscribed and wish to re-subscribe, please remember: "To subscribe from AUS-QLD-SE-Germans-D, send a message to AUS-QLD-SE-Germans-D-request@rootsweb.com that contains in the body of the message the command subscribe and no other text. No subject line is necessary, but if your software requires one, just use subscribe in the subject, too."" Using D or L depending on the mode of receipt. Please do not forget to check out the list archieves for the emails you may have missed. http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/aus-qld-se-germans Thank you all Lorrae Johnson List Admin

Dear Listers Would anyone with access to the Queensland indexes be able to look for a marriage for me please? Anna Mary MÜLLER Born: 9 December 1880 in Rosewood Scrub, Queensland. Parents: Carl Friedrich Wilhelm MÜLLER and Auguste SPRENGER. I have her marrying Albert BARKE on 24 August 1896 in Queensland but I haven't verified this information. I realise that there will be several entries for Anna's judging by some previous postings so perhaps through a process of elimination, I may be able to work it out. Thanks in advance, Jane

Hi Rhondda & Paul, I have some information regarding Zion's Hill/Nundah/German Station if you are interested. I have been slowly transcribing what I have. However, most of it is about the ZILLMANN family, as that is who I have been researching but there is some information regarding the others, and most of it is earlier than 1860. There are also 5 books held at the John Oxley Library written by John Hermann Leopold Zillmann, who was born in 1841 at this Station, and one by John Williams Zillman b 1845, called Recollections of my Early Life. If you go to http://jolopac.slq.qld.gov.au/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?PAGE=sbSearch&SEQ=20020920030018&PID=29910 you can also do a search on Nundah History and it will bring up some books. Nundah State School was originally called German Station State School. There is also some basic information found on the Nundah/Toombul ward internet site at: http://www.ecn.net.au/%7ekflesser/page19.html Despite alot of contrary information I believe the initial settlement was actually set up by Moravian missionaries. I hope this gives you some things to start on. Good luck. Werona >Hello all, > >Can anyone direct us to find information regarding German Station during the >1860's? > >Thanks, >Rhondda & Paul
My family came to Toowoomba aboard the La Rochelle, via Simons Town and Dunwich Quarantine, but had two deaths on the voyage. This family is detailed as leaving from CASELOW, in the Prenzlau area. They were my gg grandparents William and Justine SCHOENWALDT, their married daughter Friederike & Johann HOEPPER, with their children Frederick 4 and Friederike 2, a daughter Marie, engaged to Ferdinand MULLER (also on board) and three sons, August, Frederick Wilhelm and Ferdinand. Two year old Friederike died at sea a month after sailing and Justine died while the ship spent the month at Simon's Town. Her death Cert. does not say where she was buried. I have this family from when they left quarantine Feb 1866 and then in Toowoomba, so if anyone finds anything written about them and their trip up the range etc I would be grateful. Hazel FORD PS Marie and Ferdinand MULLER went on to have 15 children and married into many Toowoomba families...GRAU,WEIDEMANN,EASTGATE,ENGLART,KEMPTHORNE,BELLAMY,WEIS,MARLOW, ROBERTS, WALBOURN,CARSELDINE,DALY and GRANT.
Hello, Thanks for telling me where to find the fische as our library doesn't have them. From the article; Christoph KRONKE also known as Christopher KRANAKA, late of Toowoomba, farmer, died 19 Dec 1875. Claimant was Eve Louise KRONKE of Toowoomba, widow. Will dated 11 Dec 1872. GG 26 Jul 1879, p165. All the best Christine.
Hi Christine, Toowoomba & Darling Downs Family History Society have the microfische of 'Transmission of Real Estate by Death'. The Christoph Kronke you mentioned from the article is my husbands gr gr grandfather. I do have a copy of his will but would like to know what details were mentioned in the article you read. ----- Original Message ----- From: Christine <recker@austarnet.com.au> To: <AUS-QLD-SE-Germans-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 18, 2002 4:38 PM Subject: [Qld -SE-German] Government Gazettes. > Hello all, > I was reading an old copy of 'Die Zietung' which had an article with > examples from microfische & printed copies of 'Transmission of Real Estate > by Death' 1878-1889 (wills I guess). > Could someone please tell me where these fische are available from or if > they are still available? > All the best > Christine. > > ==== AUS-QLD-SE-Germans Mailing List ==== > A List for the research of the descendants of the Germans who migrated to South East Queensland, Australia. > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > >

Marg, the TEWS that is mentioned on the baptism certificate is Knecht Carl TEWS. This, I am told, means that he was a farm worker named Carl TEWS. The baptism took place 22 September 1839, in the village of Woltersdorf, Kreis Randow, Germany. That is all I can tell you. The reason I put the names and the query on the list is that - since my ancestors and two brothers from the same family left Hohenselchow to have two of them go to Australia and one to America - I thought that perhaps more people from the village left also and went to Australia. It was a long shot - but the names listed as witnesses to the births constitute a historical comment on the village of Hohenselchow, the villages of Pinnow, Casekow and Woltersdorf. These people lived there at these times and it gives us a listing of the names of the families that comprised these villages - albeit a partial listing of the villagers. I am sure there were many more living there, but these names are of people who lived there at that particular time. sorry I cannot give you more information. cheers, Beverly.
Hi Chis, I have tried every where else, so you never know you might come up with something. The la Rochelle left the Elbe, Germany on the 12th August 1865 captain J. Junge. They Simons Town, South Africa from the 18th October until the 19th November, due to sickness of the passengers. She arrived in Cape Morton on the 25th December 1865, laid anchor in Brisbane River on the 27th December, but due to the sickness still on board the ship was placed in Quarantine. About 65 passengers died on the voyage. We have been trying to prove and find the death of my husbands gggrandmother Margaretha Rück. I have the full report from Hamburg Passenger Lists, we have been through all the newspapers and government gazettes, as well as many other documents, but nowhere have we found as with other ships a list of the deceased. I was sad to learn that about 2 weeks after the La Rochelle, was released from Quarantine that a man committed suicide, (I cannot find the info with his name, I must have miss filed it), but he never recovered from the dreadful journey. Hi all Has anyone come across the following program, please: Eric Spehir's "Top of the Trees" program (last heard of in 1997 from SA) Is the program still available? Apparently it produced very good details with a great index to produce a book. Any advice appreciated.
