    3. Good morning Margaret and other Friends This material is extracted from a book whose author has given authority for me to copy his work. For privacy, I will not go into the current material, but Margaret, you could contact me off List if you wish. There is not a great deal of which you would not be aware, in any case. Spelling etc is as per the book. ""Mr Christian (Christy) Freidrich Wilhelm Schmidt arrived in Brisbane with his parents in the sailing ship "Alster" on the 12th of August 1862, when he was almost ten years old: Soon after arrival the family moved to Roma, spending some time at Toowoomba. On returning to South East Queensland Christy and Anna purchased a block of land from Richard Deerain, (who later moved to Kerry). Christy was 19 years of age at the time, he did not stay long but moved away cane cutting at Redland Bay; later he learnt his trade of Wheel-wrighting at Beenleigh. He married Anna Wilhemena Karolina nee Buhke, Anna arrived in Brisbane aged 18months 17th March 1872, nine years after her future husband's arrival. After the Floods had destroyed their possessions at Loganholme in 1887 he came to Beaudesert with his new wife and infant son, they lived on the corner of Birnam Street where Klumpp's Cordial Factory was built. Christy carried out his profession as Wheelwright in Beaudesert. Later moving to Eaglesfield Street where they built a small home, later enlarging it to the very comfortable home which they named "Crissana". Christy died on the 29th July 1950, Anna died on the 9th February 1955. Christy and Anna has three sons: Wilhelm Fredrick (Bill) Otto C Schmidt Alfred Charles Schmidt Six daughters: Wilhemine 'Minnie' Auguste Rose Lilly Elsie Isabella Anne Phyllis"" As mentioned their is more data re spouses and children - not a great deal, but it would be useful to some. Of course, you may be wondering why I haven't answered your other queries about this couple -- I received the book on Thursday of last week and this family happens to appear on Pages 12 and 13, which I just happened to read last night!! Cheers Bev > There is a family story that my G-grandparents, Christian Friedrich > Wilhelm SCHMIDT (1952-1950) and his wife, Anna Wilhelmina Karolina BUHK > (1869-1955) (married 1886) were swept away with their house and all > their belongings in an earlier flood on the Logan River.

    3. No - I have not mailed anyone about my Erbachers, for many months. It must be a virus. I have Norton 2002 installed, which will pick up bugs for me - but I cant stop the virus from picking up my name and using it. Apparently it comes from my name appearing on anyones address book. Every one please take warning. Marg McN Alan Wildblood <wildblood@blinx.de> wrote: Margaret,A message from a "margaret mcnamara" was sent to my CompuServe address, the one I use for rootsweb posts. 1. Logan River Floods - 1886-7
    2. Margaret Szalay
    3. There is a family story that my G-grandparents, Christian Friedrich Wilhelm SCHMIDT (1952-1950) and his wife, Anna Wilhelmina Karolina BUHK (1869-1955) (married 1886) were swept away with their house and all their belongings in an earlier flood on the Logan River. Anna contracted a bad ear infection which left her partially deaf for the rest of her life. It must have been in 1886 or 1887 as they had moved to Beaudesert in 1887 where he started his wheelwright business. Christian had come to Australia as a 9yo in 1861, and Anna had come as a 2yo in 1871. Both came from the Uckermark region and both families had later settled in the Logan. If anyone has any information on the Logan floods, I would be interested to receive it. My topic is the impact of firist and second generation German-Lutheran migrants cultural values on Queensland politics in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I understand your region had a significant German presence during that period. I wish to hear from readers who have gathered any family or local community history regarding the German-Lutherans cultural and political background before and after arriving in Queensland. 1. Is there a reason?
    2. Hello all, I was wondering if anyone could put some light on the subject regarding the possible reasons why my GGGrandmother and her husband may have moved around. GGGrandfather lived in Toowoomba from his birth (1873) and his wife lived in Highfields from about age 17 or 18 (abt 1890). They seemed to have moved from The Toowoomba Area about or before 1892 and settled in Rockhampton. In Rockhampton, their first child was born 24 Sep 1892, Second child born 18 Nov 1893 and then they married 23 May 1894 in Rockhampton. Their third child was born 24 Mar 1895 in Toowoomba. Is it possible that there were more jobs available in Rockhampton that caused them to go there and live? Was Toowoomba in a slump at that time? Was there an established settlement of Germans in Rockhampton? I do know that both of them were raised speaking German and GGGrandmother never did seem to come to some mastery of ENGLISH. I knew her when I was a child and she spoke broken English. If any one can put some light on the possible reasons for the move from Toowoomba to Rockhampton, I would appreciate it. thanks, Beverly.
