    3. Werona, I found all of my german descent servicemen in the nominal rolls - their name was Ziegenfusz - can't get more german than that. 2. G'day Is anyone on the list researching this family or can someone point me in the right direction please? I am trying to establish the German antecedents of Friedrich Taege as I believe his is the Uncle of my August Taege who arr "Duke of Buckingham" 1873. On the "Duke" was a Carl Taege who was 68 yo and who could/should be related. TIA Norm

    2. Hi, My ancestry is definitely GERMAN and my EISER and SCHMIDT and SCHULTZ names are prominent. Please check out the site and you will be able to find your names unless the individuals did not serve in the Australian military services. My father was called up, but after boot camp, they asked for carpenters and it was the one and only time he ever volunteered for anything, and the sargeant told him to go to the office and he did and was handed his papers to muster out to go back to his job as a joiner to make munitions boxes for the rest of the war. He does not appear on the WW2 rolls. cheers, Beverly.

    1. Thank you all for your input about German's descendents serving in the wars.
    2. Werona Armstrong
    3. Hello, Thank you all for your input. From the general feedback everyone gave it seems that my family were an exception. As Beverley mentioned, they may have "served" in a different manner, than actual military service. And Albert...I loved your story! Shows there must have been some tension about "shooting cousins" within the population! I think I'll have to go and chat with my elder relatives again, next time I'm home, and see if any light can be shed. Thanks again. Werona

    2. Hamilton
    3. Hi Someone posted this on one of the lists I am on - so some of you are bound to already have this information thanks to that good person - but I thought it should be made known on as many lists as possible because it is such a good resource for recent Australian research. The Government has made a website listing all Australians who served in Australia's Defence forces and the Merchant Navy during World War II. I have found dates and places of birth that were too recent to be found by other research. The website is http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/ Elaine with gratitude - and acknowledgement - to the original poster of this information

    3. Margaret, I was more or less wondering how big the book was. I have photo copies of the pages 135 through to 145. Are there many more than this or did I get the back end. I was going to see if I could get the rest of the book photocopied but by the looks of things it maybe too expensive. I wasn't looking for any particular name, just mad with myself for not getting more copies at the time. I use it to help with research requests on the mailing lists. Cheers Bev' In Toowoomba PS You wouldn't want to sell it by any chance would you? -----Original Message----- From: Margbay <margbry@dodo.com.au> To: AUS-QLD-SE-Germans-L@rootsweb.com <AUS-QLD-SE-Germans-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, 7 November 2002 10:20 Subject: Re: Dawn over the Darling Downs >Yes, I have a copy of the book.
