The information on her parents on her death certificate came from someone else, who may not have been terribly well-informed. I would be more inclined to believe the parents on the marriage certificate for that reason - certainly it is consistent with the immigration record you found. Kerry
Hello List, We have found a marriage for August Theuerkauf and Friedericke Kuart on the 01 Apr 1866. The parents for Friedericke on the certificate are shown as Carl Kuart and Dorothea Thormann the parents for August were shown as John Theuerkauf and Becilt Louise Albrecht. We have also received information that Friedericke died on the 07 Apr 1924 at Haigslea. Our problem is that on the microfiche for the Qld BD&M Index for 1924, the death is shown as Amalie Friederike Theuerkauf is Qld 1924/001688 and the parents are Christian Bade and Kuhrt. On the emigration we have found the ship Johann Cesar departed 7-10-1865 from Hamburg and arrived Moreton Bay 12-2- 1866. The family of Carl Curth aged 55, Caroline aged 30, Amalie aged 22, Wilhelm aged 11, Emilie aged 5 were passengers 83-87. Their last place of residence was given as Gerswalde Preussen. Which we know is in Brandenburg. It is interesting to note the differnet spelling for Kurth. These are completely different parents. Can anyone help. Noel & Del

Hi Albert I found with my husbands family, the husband arrived first and was classified as Steerage. The wife & children followed soon after but the name is undecipherable. So I went off the naturalization records. Albert, I can't help, but you have my sincerest sympathy in your plight. I have a problem with my Busch ancetors but only that I can't find their arrival in about 1865. Very frustrating. Eric, Thanks for that. I just sent an email with my frustration in this matter. Is it possible to get a copy of the story of its journey? I live out in the sticks and our local library does not have such things. I avoid going into Melbourne except the football and even then try hard. Okay so I should not say I live in Melbourne but it is easier to say that than start explaining further. Actually we are only 70 kms from the city but there are a lot of cars and people between us and it. I will be in Toowoomba next month and try then to find more answers. I apologise for being persistent about this issue but I really have a problem and from where I am it is proving very difficult to resolve it and resolve it I must if I am to achieve my goal. Let me explain my problem. All of my life I was told that there was only one family of Volker ever came to Toowoomba from Germany. I was told always that one of the family was some sort of renegade and changed his named from Volker to Folker. >From the material that I have before me I doubt if I was alone in this belief. I have been gathering Volker material for some fifteen years and about six months ago I was prompted to sort it out and produce my planned book. I quickly learned that in fact there were at least three families and a number of individual Volker who migrated from Germany to Queensland between 1862 and 1867. I have toiled away at this for months and now have about three family trees and a number of people that I cannot tie into any tree. I believe that what I have is 99% correct. The problem is to establish just how they came out. I have: 1. Families that allegedly came out on two different ships. For example on family is supposed to have come out on the Gutefrau and on the Caeser Godeffroy. 2. Some came out in 1863, 64, and 65. 3. Some came out on ships that simply do not exist to my knowledge. Is the Gutefrau a ship? 4. Some cannot be found on manifests of the ships they allegedly came on. I think the point is that I need to find these poeple on manifests somewhere. The one giving me most headaches at the moment is a ship called the "Johann Caeser". It is alleged to have made 6 visits to Moreton Bay. I have three people who allegedly came out on it in 1864. They came from three different parts of Germany and their ages suggest they are not related. Problem is I cannot find any records of the Johann Caeser coming to Moreton Bay. I have recently purchased a book on 1864 ships and it is not in there. I have searched the web and it does no come up. I can not search it further through local channels down here. I even wonder if the ship name is correct and if it should not be the Johann Godfrey. I also wonder if it left Hamburg. Any leads will be welcome Thanks Albert Grulke in cold old Melbourne

The Johann Caeser did come to Australia in 1864 - my Lebherz family were amongst the passengers. I have some documents referring to the voyage: On 21 Feb 1864, J C Heussler (German Immigration Agent) wrote to the Colonial Secretary lamenting the loss of the "Wilhelmsburg" and most of its passengers enroute from Germany to Australia on the night of 3rd and 4th December. He wrote of "fearful gales prevailing during that month in the North Sea" and went on to advise that "the Johann Cesar (sic) with German emigrants sailed from Hamburg for this Colony, she experienced also severe gales in the North Sea and was obliged to seek shelter in Cowes from which harbour she continued her voyage on the 18th December." The Johann Caeser finally arrived in Queensland on 15 Jun 1864 - a very slow voyage for that time. It left Cowes on 18 December 1863 but I don't have the exact date it set out from Hamburg. Albert my Zingelmann family arrived in Brisbane on the ship. Set out below is a short story about the trip. Carl Zingelmann and family left Hamburg on the 12th of October 1865 on ship Johann Cesar and arrived Brisbane 12th February 1866 with wife and children. Carl was listed on the shipping records as a arbeiter (a worker). Newspaper report in the Brisbane Courier on Monday February 12 1866. The ship the Hamburg baroque "The Johan Ceser" sailed from Elbe on October 12 1865 and immediately after sailing fell in with very rough weather which continued until she was clear of the Bay of Biscay. During a violent galleon the Bay of Biscay the carpenter was washed overboard and drowned by a heavy sea which broke on board. Subsequently she had a moderate and fine weather nearly the whole of the passage. The Line was crossed on the 52nd day out and on December 9th she sighted the Island of Trinidad and was off Tristam d'Acunha on Christmas Day. On New Years day she was in the meridian of the Cape of Good Hope. The running down the easting was very good and the Desert Islands were made on January 13th, and Tasmania on 29th of the same month. The highest southing was 49 degree. On February 6th she anchored off Cape Morton and on the 8th she cast anchor in Brisbane Roads. The ship was examined and passed by the health officer on the following day the passengers about 255 in number were landed at the new depot in Williams Street. Captain Bruhn reports having spoken the ship Celestial Empire from London to Bombay, on January 16th then forty four days out. He also sighted five ships from London to Queensland, but did not ascertain their names and one English ship from Shields to Rio. The Johan Cesar brings to our shores 245 German immigrants. Their health during the passage has been very good. Only eight deaths have occurred. All except one were infants. There were four births and in one case the child died. The saloon passengers are Dr Oscar Willkie the surgeon superintendent and Mr. Felix Paniza. The cargo for this port is small and is comprised in 120 cases consigned to Messrs Heussler and Co. The Johann Cesar of the Johann Cesar Godeffroy line was a baroque of burdon 182 C.L. or capacity 390 NRT square AND DIMENSIONS 37.9M X 8.1M X 5.12M CUBIC. She was built at the Godeffroy shipyard at Reiherstieg near Hamburg and commissioned 3 September 1852. She was the second Godeffroy vessel to carry this name. This was the last of her 6 voyages from Hamburg to Australia and the third to Brisbane. After leaving Brisbane she visited some trading ports then went to Le Havre before returning to Hamburg in 1867. Between 1867 and 1872 she was owned by H D A. Bruck who captained her from 1865 to 1875. Godeffrey again owned her from 1872 to 1880 when she was finally sold to Bjorkegren in Cimbrishamn Sweden and renamed it the Ingegerd. Regards Colin Larter

Hi Gaylene The BAUER family was published by Wendy White, - Friedrich & Katharina BAUER, Ancestors & Descendants, (1998), Perhaps she has more on the FRICKE family... Do you know her address in Bundaberg? Lorrae Glenore Grove Qld 4342 http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=helmrich -----Original Message----- From: norm bourguignon [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, 31 July 2007 11:02 AM To: Germans in SE Qld Subject: [SEQ-GERMANS] Fw:Fricke and Reuter/Bauer I have been trawling the internet for Fricke's and found a Reuter/Bauer site belonging to Alan someone but his email address is no longer functional. I have some information on William Frederick Fricke who married Fredericka Bauer. This is because my Korber ancestor's mother was a Fricke from Hanover. I have been trying to tie these 2 families together but without success so far as I'm not certain about the birthplace of William Frederick's father, Freidrich Fricke and his wife Henriette. This family was on 'Boonara' station near Goomeri in the 1880's where the father, Freidrich was the manager and he was buried there in 1888. Does anyone have any interest in the descendants? These would include the Standen, Holland and Moessenger/Messenger families. Regards, Gaylene
