It's lovely to see that while all my other lists have gone quiet over the Christmas weekend, family researchers are still at it! I hope everyone had a wonderful day yesterday. I wanted to pass on a great tool I bought on the net at www.familyhistorycd.com I used it to make a cd which I gave to every family member for Christmas. In essence, it creates an autorun cd on which you can put anything. It is very easy to build your front page, from which you put links to word documents, images, movies, gedcom files or anything else. People can then take the cd to a digital printing kiosk and print out the photos straight from it. Mine was divided in two halves, one for each of my parents, with pedigree charts, scanned bdm certificates, shipping records, name research, research material I've received from many people, dozens of very old letters, newspaper clippings, obituaries, memorabilia, maps, stories, eulogies, and about 140 photos. It is extremely easy to use, and the result was a very impressive way to make sure all my siblings and neices and nephews have copies of family history documents. It was about $30 US, and shipped in about a week, or you can pay less and download it immediately. My daughter also used it to put a homework project on last term! My photo printer prints directly onto cds, so I put a beautiful wedding photo of my parents on the cd. I'm not sure if everyone appreciated the days and days of scanning and organising that went into it at our family Christmas, but I'm sure they will long after they've forgotten about the turkey!
