Goodday My name is Sharleen Stuart and I am researching the Cairns/Aitken connection in Brisbane. According to History, my grandmother Janet Aitken was born in Mackie, Australia. Her father was Thomas Cairns Aitken. Her mother was Annie Young Dewar. Thomas' father was Thomas Aitken and his mother was Janet Cairns, apparently both born in Brisbane. I am trying to find out more about this part of the family. From what I understand Thomas Cairns Aitken was killed in a boating accident when my grandmother was very young. Her mother later married Edward Emmanuel Reynolds and I believe, that on route back to Scotland, Annie Young Dewar Reynolds became ill and they disembarked in Durban, South Africa, where they lived until they died. I have a good deal of information on Annie Young Dewar (past on to me by a long distance family member) but nothing on Thomas and his parents. I am interested to know more about his family and whether he had sibings. If anyone could throw some light on the family I would really appreciate it.
