    3. Just wondering if anyone has come across any Auliffe people in their research. James Auliffe and Bridget(nee Doogan), his wife, and his sister Judith arrived in South Australia in the early 1850's. Children born to James Auliffe are William in 1856 (New South Wales) and a daughter born to James Auliffe and Bridget Doogan christened in 1858 in Victoria, but in 1859, Bridget married Alexander John Stacey in NSW, and no more mention can be found of James Auliffe. First, does anyone have any creative ideas about how to track him down? (no luck NSW bdm's online) Secondly, what is the likelihood that he was really a McAuliffe who dropped the Mc on the ship over and later took it up again? I notice my O'Driscolls sometimes appear as Driscoll or O'Driscoll, and wonder if this is a common phenomenon in Irish immigrants? Thanks! Carolyn
