I'm Looking for information on my great aunt JESSIE ELLEN CLIFTON (nee BORHAM) and any descendents she and her husband (name unknown) may have had: This is what I have: 1. In June 1908 she was living at Bengarra River Road, Milton. 2. She was born on January 1st 1864 to WILLIAM HENRY and ELLEN GREATWOOD BORHAM at Chipping Hill House, Halstead, Essex, England. 3. I don't know when or to whom she was married except that he was MR CLIFTON 4. My great grandmother, ELLEN GREATWOOD came to live with Jessie sometime in 1904, possibly from Parramatta or Sydney. Ellen died on 10th June 1908 and is buried in the Toowong cemetery. 5. There is no entry for a Jessie Clifton in the Brisbane City Council grave location search website. Any information anyone has about Jessie and any family she may have had will be very gratefully received. Thanks, Paul Droar

There is no entry for a Jessie Clifton in the Brisbane City Council > grave location search website. The monumental inscription at Toowong Cemetery for Ellen says: Ralph CLIFTON d. 16 May 1911 aged 53; also Ellen Greatwood BORHAM d. 10 June 1909 aged 70; also his only son Lieut. Ralph CLIFTON, R.F.A. d. of wounds in France 22 May 1917 aged 27. That would make Ralph (senior) born 1857-8, so about the right age to be Jessie Ellen's husband. That would make Ralph (junior) born 1889-90, so about the right age to be Jessie Ellen's son. However, here is what the Qld BDM index says about these people: Clifton ,Jessie ,Birth ,Ralph ,Jessie Elizabeth Borham ,09 ,06 ,1888 ,1888/ 011097 Clifton ,Ralph ,B ,Ralph,Elizabeth Furlong ,1890-06-09 ,1890/ 007119 Borham ,Ellen Greatwood ,D ,William Tull Cave ,Harriet Woods ,1908-06-10 ,1908/ 001005 Clifton ,Ralph ,D ,Daniel Clifton ,Sarah Hamer,1911-05-16 ,1911/B014067 Clifton ,Jessie ,M ,Montefiore ,Herbert Arthur ,1914-07-14 ,1914/B015259 There is no record of Jessie Ellen/Elizabeth Clifton dying between 1888 and 1890, so could Elizabeth Furlong be Jessie Elizabeth Borham (somehow)? Or are there two Ralph Cliftons having children around the same time? Is the Jessie Clifton who marries in 1914, the widow or the daughter? There is a record for Ralph junior at the Commonwealth War Graves, but it doesn't any light on who exactly his mother is, but shows he was married: CLIFTON, RALPH Initials:R Nationality:United Kingdom Rank:Second Lieutenant Regiment:Royal Field Artillery Unit Text:14th Div. H.Q. Age:27 Date of Death:22/05/1917 Additional information:Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Clifton, of Queensland, Australia; husband of Ida Kathleen Clifton. Casualty Type:Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference:VII. A. 18. Cemetery:BOULOGNE EASTERN CEMETERY So, I don't know if any of this answers more questions that it asks, but good luck with the research! Kerry
Hi Everyone, I'd definetly appreciate it if SKS could check a funeral notice and a legal notice for me in the "Brisbane Courier Mail". They are both from 2004 so anyone who can get to the library or hasn't cleaned out their garage lately could be of great assistance. Help would be appreciated. Victor, What issue and what are you after? I can access some back issues of the CM online via Brisbane libraries website.
