Spurred on by a WWW site that claims that Greater Metropolitan Brisbane has 59 Cemeteries, I tried to list them all and found I came well short. There are 12 that Brisbane City Council control: Bald Hills (Sandgate) Balmoral (Bulimba) Brookfield Cedar Creek Hemmant Lutwyche Moggill Mt Gravatt Nundah Pinnaroo South Brisbane (Dutton Park) Toowong (Brisbane General) There are some church cemeteries that I know of: * Sherwood (Anglican) * Nudgee (Catholic) * Chapel Hill (Uniting) And there are some other small private ones: * God's Acre (Archerfield) There are ones that have been wiped off the map (so to speak): * Paddington (now Lang Park) (Brisbane General) There are some other ones but they might not be in Brisbane but in surrounding local authorities: * Centenary Memorial Gardens, Wacol (Ipswich?) * Heritage Park, Goodna (Ipswich?) And there are crematoriums which might be included as cemeteries since they bury ashes there, that might be included for the purposes of a count: * Mt Thompson (Holland Park) * Albany Creek Are there other places with niches for ashes but no burials (other than those at cemeteries and crematoriums)? But I'm still well short of 59. Any others that anyone else can name? Of course, I am not sure what constitutes "Greater Brisbane" for the purposes of this discussion. Being historically minded, I am presuming it is a reference to the merger of Brisbane councils and shires back in the 1920s-30s and so constitutes the area we call Brisbane today. But of course it may be a reference to Brisbane, Ipswich, Redcliffe, Pine Rivers, Logan City etc that constitute the continuous urban sprawl of Brisbane which clearly introduces a lot more possible cemeteries. So can anyone think of any others? Especially the small ones. Kerry
