Hi everyone, Sorry if this is a bit off topic but I believe its very important to everyone, pass it onto other lists. I have no connection what so ever with this publication other that being a subscriber. I've just received the current copy of "Your Family Tree" issue 23. The editorial is about the MOD (Ministry of Defence) who intends to destroy 6 million records of WW1 personnel. These records are held on cards 4 x 6 and in 140 cabinets. The fronts of these cards have been scanned, fronts only (microfiche) by the National Archives, but the editor believes that there is more info on the back i.e. the address of where medals were sent. The NA do not want these cards and the editor is appealing for every one to contact our Minister of Defence Geoff Hoon and the Director of the National Archives to try and save these cards. You can email: [email protected] subject line Save the Medal Index Cards Or write to: Rt Hon Geoff Hoon & SarahTyacke Save the Medals Index Cards c/o Your Family Tree 30 Monmouth St Bath BA1 2BW I think anyone who is researching their family tree should email or write, who knows when you might need these cards and the info they contain. Most of us have hit brick walls because the info has been destroyed by fire, here's our chance to save a part of our national heritage and stop the MOD from destroying them Again I'm sorry if this is off topic.
