G'day , I am new to this list as most of my research, other than OS, is focused on NSW, VIC and WA. My problem is to reconcile a date of arrival in Brisbane of two families who were reputed to have come out together aboard the DUKE of ARGYLL when it arrived in Brisbane on 09 December 1885. I have a copy of the relevent page(s) of the QLD Archives. Immigration Records. IMM/120 page 421. SAG Film 3826. which confirm the arrival of a mother (Harriett McMULLEN (nee BARROW)) and her daughter (Louisa Mary McMULLEN). The son of Harriett (Frederick Arthur [FA] McMULLEN) had arrived earlier on the DUKE of DEVONSHIRE on 19 July 1884 from QLD Archives. Immigration Records. IMM/119 page 108. SAG Film 3825. From a third party it was believed that the fiancee of FA (Emma Mary Duffield IRWIN) and her widowed mother (Mary IRWIN (nee DUFFIELD)) and her brother (Henry Diffield IRWIN) also came out aboard the D of ARGYLL however this is not possible as the birth certificate for FA's son Edwyn Harry McMULLEN, which I have sighted, has him born July 28, 1886 at Taringa, Brisbane QLD. And the marriage of his parents, which I have not verified, took place on October 24, 1885 at Brisbane, QLD. Can SKS with easy access to the appropriate records please advise me of WHEN - and if possible how - the IRWIN family arrived in Brisbane. I do not believe that they came with FA as he was reputed to have come out to prepare the way for the others although that possibility cannot be discounted at this stage. I know that Harriett and Louisa came out as REMITTANCE passengers and I suspect that the others were the same except for FA who probably paid his own way. I cannot find any of them on QLD State Archives - Indexes - Immigration 1848-1884 at: http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/research/index/immigration.asp Thanks for any assistance that is forthcoming.
