My great-great grandfather, Matthew Clark, was listed in the Queensland Government Gazette on 5th October, 1888. Each week the Dunwich Benevolent Asylum sent reports to be included in the QGG. The entry states: MATTHEW CLARK, 65, miner, from IPSWICH; employed during the last twenty-five years by the BRISBANE CORPORATION. (admitted 27/9/1888) He had periods of leave but died there on 10 June 1896. Does anyone know details about the BRISBANE CORPORATION? Was it the Brisbane City Council, as someone suggested? > Hi I suspect it is not the Brisbane Council although I have no evidence of this. The State Library has something which mentions it. Chambers William Holloway Engineer for the corporation of Brisbane Claims of the Brisbane corporation 1875/v.1 543 This was on a page listing people who were bought up before Queensland Government Committees. I would assume that the document would go into more detail about the Brisbane Corporation.
