> Can anyone help me find a Pear St. Brisbane in 1941. > Thanking you in advance. Well, in 1956, there were 2 Pear Streets, one in Bald Hills and one in Runcorn, but these are very outer suburbs, and I doubt that they would be described as merely "Brisbane" without a reference to a suburb. There was a Pearr St (two "r"s) in Greenslopes (as another person has mentioned). This is a much more inner southside suburb. There was a Pears St in Auchenflower, an inner west suburb. There was a Peary St in Northgate, over in the North-East. Not exactly inner, but not really outer either (say, middle suburb). If you can give the name of the people believed to be living there, a search of the electoral rolls may reveal which of these possibilities is more likely. But I think that the Greenslopes and Auchenflower suburbs are the only one likely to be described as "Brisbane" without reference to a suburb name. I'd say that Auchenflower would be the most inner of the two. Also the amalgamation of local councils in the present Brisbane had only occurred in about 1930, so I think in 1941 people would still tend to use the older town name of "South Brisbane" rather than "Brisbane" to describe the inner southern suburbs. I couldn't find Eileen Calford, but in 1935 Eliza Calford (presumably her mother) is listed in the electoral roll as living at Pear St, Dunellan in the Coorparoo subdivision of the Moreton electorate. The Dunellan Estate is part of Greenslopes today, so that would seem to pin it down to the Pear St in Greenslopes.
