    3. I am interested to find some information about my great uncle who emigrated to Australia and died in 1944. He was born in Newcastle upon Tyne on 31 May 1878 and married Lydia DOUGLASS in Durham England on 24 Feb 1904. Thanks to the Roots chat website I have discovered that he sailed to Brisbane from London in 1912 and was joined by his wife in 1914. At that time his occupation was a carpenter. I was also given details of the 1919 Electoral Roll where he lived with his wife at Lodge Street, Toowong and was a Billiard Marker and the 1925 and 1936 Electoral Roll when they lived at Milton Street , Toowong and he was a Billiard Salon Keeper. The couple had no children and I believe he died in 1944. His wife Lydia (Lily) died after 1954 as she visited England at that time aged 78. If anyone can add any further information I would be very grateful. I wondered if there are any newspaper death notices or burial record. Thank you to everyone who has helped me so far - a week ago I only knew that Uncle 'Willie' went to Australia !!! Best wishes Margaret Daniels Cullercoats Northumberland

    3. There is no sign of the couple in the Brisbane City Council burial registers, which rules out most (but not all) of Brisbane's cemeteries. If they were still living in Brisbane at the time of their deaths, they were most likely cremated at the privately run Mt Thompson Crematorium. There are some records available for it (but I don't have any easy access to them). The Qld death indexes go to 1964 so very likely someone with access can find a date of death for you for both of the couple. There is very likely a death or funeral notice for them in the Brisbane Courier-Mail, but as there are no indexes to the BDM notices, you do need the approx date of death to go searching.
