Hi Kaye Yes. There WAS a railways booking office in the Government buildings which were next to Anzac Square in Adelaide Street in Brisbane. I can remember going in there and getting rail tickets. Think it then became the Queensland Tourist Dept office sometime ??? probably around the 1970s when lots of changes were made. You would go to one counter and apply for tickets; go and wait in another line for the tickets to be issued. Nothing was hurried in those days. Sorry, can't remember a jewellery shop in the vicinity. My late husband was in the trade and don't remember him mentioning one. There were a few little jewellery places in the buildings around this area (mainly upstairs) where it was mainly repair work to watches, silver, engraving etc. which was their trade. Maybe some other Lister will have more knowledge than me. Hi Kaye I have a 1960's photo of that area if you want one. It does not show the shops but it's taken from the top of the Bureau of Meteorology in Edward St where I use to work in another life. Contact me off line if you want me to send it to you.
