Hi All, My Grandparents lived at Cribb Island until they died in 1978/1979 obviously not long before the Island was taken in 1980. I am trying to find an old map of Jackson's Estate. I have found one on the web for Cribb Island but I don't think it includes Jackson's Estate which you turned left into when you got to Cribbie. Some lovely people helped me before to find a map for Astor Terrace but I have deleted the link, I think it was the National Library, perhaps I might find one there if anyone can help with that. I was a teenager then and remember the many trips to Cribbie and am trying to replot from memory where they lived. We have no photos and there are very few on the web. If anyone has photos particularly Jacksons Estate I would love a copy, Thanks for any help, Jenny

The 1955 street directory shows a little pocket of streets which would fit your description (turn left when you got to Cribbie). The street names are First St, Second St, Third St, Fourth St, Fifth St (creative, weren't they) and Reneman St. Do any of them ring a bell? Thanks Kerry, Is it possible to send me a copy of the streets from the street directory if you have it, I know their house was right on the beach, and the last in the street & possibly the estate. I could probably find it with a map (it's only for me to reminisce). Can't remember seeing street signs anywhere. I have also read a lot about it on the net, did not realize after the government bought the houses off people, that they rented those houses back out to other short term tenants until they were ready to demolish them. Using Picture Queensland http://www.pictureqld.slq.qld.gov.au/ and the search "cribb island" I found many images. Using the search "cribb island jackson" I found 3 images. It's probably worth going there and playing around with the search facility and seeing what you find. Also if you google "cribb island jackson" you will turn up many stories and bits of history about the area. I found it entertaining reading even though I have no connection to that area.
