    3. ***Apologies if you receive this more than once. I am just trying to spread the word.*** Hello listers I am just putting out another call for those who have any old family photographs, which were taken after the person had died (usually taken in the 1800s and early 1900s and often tucked away in albums, shoeboxes and drawers!) to please contact me. Thanks to all those who have already replied. Your information and kindness has been wonderful and will assist me immensely in my studies. I am most grateful. Shelley

    2. Brian Sullivan
    3. Greetings, When did the 40th regiment detatchment under led by Lt. Miller arrive at Moreton Bay to found the settlement? Secondly, when did the wives of the service man arrive? At the same time - or later? Does anyone know? Brian Sullivan

    1. Mary Cox (m Maud then West)
    2. Brian Sullivan
    3. Greetings, I am hoping someone can look up the birth of Mary Cox born to a Sergeant of the 40th regiment in Moreton Bay. Please allow me to explain the details. The commanding Lieutenant of the 40th Regiment detachment had a son Charles 5/11/1824. My family history claims she was born on the day offices wives came ashore. It also claims it was about 2 weeks before Millers son was born (c20/10/1824).. The history of Capt. Henry Miller found at http://members.ozemail.com.au/~pjandrew/miller.html quotes the Brisbane Courier 28 April 1923 proposing Millers son Charles was the 1st white child of Queensland. A Miller genealogy suggests this but does not deny it may not be correct. http://members.ozemail.com.au/~pjandrew/scholley.html#Charl The author of the above site, Peter Andrews, wrote to me: "I did have and now cannot find (lent it to someone ???) a copy of a page of Births or Christenings in NSW (Qld was part of NSW then). As I recall Charles Miller's name was higher up the list but the date on the next Morton Bay entry (I assume your Mary) was earlier." Can anyone find Mary's DOB? Brian Sullivan

    3. David, There is a placename search (Qld Govt) online at http://www.nrme.qld.gov.au/property/placenames/ This came up with 3 x Brooklands, only one of which looked like a grazing property, in Etheridge Shire SW of Cairns: http://www.nrme.qld.gov.au/property/placenames/detail.php?id=4679 Don't know if this is the right place - Qld is a big place! 2. Ian & Margaret Kelly
    3. David You will have to write to the appropriate department, could be Health Department and get the records under the Freedom of Information Act. This will cost money - not sure of how much. You then will have to go to the Qld Archives to read the records. I had to do this for records for a family member from 1909-1913. Maybe you could give the Qld Archives at Runcorn a phone call and they would be able to assist you in this process. 1. Ted Klein
    2. Ian & Margaret Kelly
    3. Hi I am writing a book on the KLEIN family who were early pioneers in the Toowoomba area. I am trying to find out what happened to Ted Klein who was born Edward Klein at Meringandan near Toowoomba about 1887 (parents Christian Klein & Catherina Friederike Holzwarth). He may have also been known by the first name of Theodore or Ned. He married Annie Mary Montgomery in 1908 and had three children by 1915, namely Leonard, Vincent and Eileen. Ted moved away from his family about 1920 and he and Annie were divorced in 1932. I have traced all his living descendants and none of them know anything about their father. I have been told that Ted was living in Brisbane about 1938. I would be grateful if anyone who knew Ted Klein could get in touch with me. Ian Kelly Sandstone Point Qld

    1. insanity files
    2. Carolyn Nightingale
    3. I just wanted to pass on a bit of success I had at the State Archives in the last week. I had previously looked up a great great aunt in the Insanity Index, following the advice I found on Judy Webster's website http://www.judywebster.gil.com.au/insanity.html When I asked the archivist at the desk, he told me that in order to get further information, I would have to apply to the Health Dept under the FOI Act. I was quite happy to get this far, and while ordering some Gympie Watchhouse lookups from Judy Webster, I mentioned my progress to her. She wrote back and told me that while I couldn't get the Medical Records with special permission under the FOI Act,I could certainly obtain the Public Curator's files, which contained the administrative details of her admission (and subsequent 41 year stay) and possibly letters from family members. I followed the instructions in Tips For Queensland Research, a copy of which is in the Public Reading Room, and soon I had a copy of my great great aunt's original file in my hands, which included a letter written by my great grandfather. It was such a find! I felt what I call the 'time traveller's rush' as I opened it. Tips for Queensland Research has loads of topics and step-by-step instructions about how to find information. I also found out details of several of my other relatives who spent their last years at the Dunwich Benevolent Asylum, following advice from the Tips book. It's extremely easy to use, and enabled me to access files I would otherwise never have seen. You can also order the book from Judy Webster's site, for $10. If you haven't already seen her website, which has tons of helps and tips, it's http://www.judywebster.gil.com.au/ Carolyn Nightingale http://www.tribalpages.com/tribes/woulfe

    3. Hi all, I have been in contact with a few people from my grade 7 class at Ashgrove State School in 1973. Just wondering if there is anyone else out there that was at that school at the time. I was in 7A and we are trying to name everyone in the class photo. All help gratefully accepted. I can remember all the girls except 1 and about half the boys. Thanks, Jenny.
