    3. It's lovely to see that while all my other lists have gone quiet over the Christmas weekend, family researchers are still at it! I hope everyone had a wonderful day yesterday. I wanted to pass on a great tool I bought on the net at www.familyhistorycd.com I used it to make a cd which I gave to every family member for Christmas. In essence, it creates an autorun cd on which you can put anything. It is very easy to build your front page, from which you put links to word documents, images, movies, gedcom files or anything else. People can then take the cd to a digital printing kiosk and print out the photos straight from it. Mine was divided in two halves, one for each of my parents, with pedigree charts, scanned bdm certificates, shipping records, name research, research material I've received from many people, dozens of very old letters, newspaper clippings, obituaries, memorabilia, maps, stories, eulogies, and about 140 photos. It is extremely easy to use, and the result was a very impressive way to make sure all my siblings and neices and nephews have copies of family history documents. It was about $30 US, and shipped in about a week, or you can pay less and download it immediately. My daughter also used it to put a homework project on last term! My photo printer prints directly onto cds, so I put a beautiful wedding photo of my parents on the cd. I'm not sure if everyone appreciated the days and days of scanning and organising that went into it at our family Christmas, but I'm sure they will long after they've forgotten about the turkey! And it only has to be done once:) I now have something to send to the rellies in Ireland - nice to give something back. Enjoy your break! Carolyn

    2. Maureen Rust
    3. Hi, My name is Maureen and I live in Norfolk, England. Rosie Gwyneth BRADNAM was born in Battersea, England. She married Earnest Walter YOUNG in 1913. I am not sure when she emigrated to Australia but she died in Brisbane in 1981. Also her brother, Victor Percy Bennett BRADNAM, born 1887 Tooting, England, was in the Australia Infantry (AIF) and died in WWI in 1916. Has anyone come across these people on their research or could you tell me how I can find out more about them. Thanks Maureen

    3. > If it's helpful, this is the marriage index. > > Darcy ,Helen ,M ,Ives ,Oswald Arnold ,1913-12-03 ,1913/B014151 Quoting from the Qld Govt WWW site: http://www.justice.qld.gov.au/bdm/forms.htm Anyone may apply for certificates of births that were registered more than 100 years ago, marriages registered more than 80 years ago, and deaths registered more than 50 years ago. Access to events recorded subsequent to these periods is normally restricted to immediate family members only. So it would seem that, unlike the death certificate, there is no restriction on obtaining the marriage certificate, which should contain the names of Helen Darcy's parents. For application forms etc, see the URL above. Kerry

    3. If it's helpful, this is the marriage index. Darcy ,Helen ,M ,Ives ,Oswald Arnold ,1913-12-03 ,1913/B014151 Possibly not related, but there is also an illegitimate birth to a Helen Darcy the previous year. Darcy ,William ,B ,Helen Darcy ,1912-04-07 ,1912/B028333 Also in the possibly related category, there is an Oswald Garnett Ives in the WW2 records born in Brisbane on 31 Dec 1914 (which means the registration is in 1915 and hence not in the Federation CD), but suggests a child named after his father? 3. Nancy, In Queensland, 1968 is too recent to obtain a death certificate (unless you can prove membership of immediate family). The publicly-available indexes also stop a few years earlier than this. This mainly leaves newspapers and burial records for research. Fortunately, Brisbane City Council put its burial indexes online a year or so ago: follow the link "check cemetery records" at http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/ The Helen IVES d. 1968 was 79 years old, and shares the grave with 2 other family members. Record from the website pasted below. Their details are shown above. * NR indicates that Brisbane City Council has no record of the sex of this individual. 1. Emigration from Great Britain 1843-1873
    2. Keith G. Holmes
    3. Hi Neale, There was a series of Colonization Circulars issued by Her Majesty's Colonial Land and Emigration Commissioners from 1843 to 1873. One of these Colonization Circulars, published in 1854, is available as a reprint published by Macbeth Genealogical Books, Hampton, Victoria, Australia in 1990. ISBN 0947158170. The title is "Information for people leaving Great Britain 1854". For me, the reason this little booklet is of interest is because it would have been the type of information that our ancestors used to decide where they would emigrate during those years. As an example, on page 3, the table entitled "Cost of passage in private Ships from some of the principal Ports of the United Kingdom to the British Colonies and the United States" lists: Quebec, New Brunswick, Halifax, New York, West Indies, Falkland Islands, Cape of Good Hope and Natal, Mauritius, Ceylon, Hong Kong, Sydney, Victoria, Van Diemen's Land, Western Australia, South Australia, New Zealand and California. A recent book you may also find useful is by Simon Schama entitled A History of Britain, vol. 3, The Fate of Empire 1776-2000. There was also a BBC series produced covering the 3 volumes of Simon Schama's A History of Britain from 3000BCE - 2000. The episode / chapters that cover the Victorian age of Britain may be of particular interest to you. Happy reading! Donna Happy reading! What interests me is that the several of the Douglas/Bloomfield clan decided to up and leave England somewhere between 1886 and 1891 to head to Brisbane. I don't know what ship(s) they came out on nor the reason for the move. Was there an economic downturn in England at this time? --------------------------------- Find local movie times and trailers on Yahoo! Movies.
