Hello, Yes I have a John SMITH mystery! Surviving letters tell that John was a sea captain and also the proprietor of an Ironmonger's shop in Edward Street between Charlotte St and Elizabeth St in the 1870,s. He was also installed in the Masters Chair of Lodge No 435 Scottish Constitution on 30/11/1877. In 1878 he writes that he has sold his business and his ship will soon be ready. He next writes from California USA 1880 and has now a wife Martha and son John aged 5 and another infant son James.. I have not been able to find any record of a marriage in Aus nor any confirmation of his being a sea captain. Would be grateful for any advice Shirley S. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Thank you Rod and thank you Rose, for your kind assistance with Chippendall. This came about in researching an Australian bomber crew who perished in 1942. I had made contact with distant family of one of them, who had shared a smashing photo of a young man proudly showing off his motorbike, and this quest that you helped with has confirmed identity. You might care to have a look at www.toowongwest.org.au and check out the story of Thomas Hobgen, to check out the research project. Whilst two of the crew were Bundaberg lads, Tom wasn't, but (though I am a distant pom, ignorant of the greater Brisbane area) I assume that 460 kms would not be the end of the world in Aussie terms. Once again, thank you for your kindness. Cheers Dave daveandsusan@dhatherell.fsnet.co.uk

Can I ask please for any assistance in identifying the photographer of what is believed to be a 1940 photo taken in the Brisbane area. The rear of the photo bears a circular rubber stamp: Chippendall print (and a town name that is illegible - looks like Tunbaberg - might be Bundaberg) Cheers Dave Hatherell in the wet and windy UK daveandsusan@dhatherell.fsnet.co.uk

Hi, as a new subscriber I wish to place my interests. Thomas RUSSELL husband of Elizabeth (nee SPILLER) was residing in Warry Street Spring Hill in 1886 when Elizabeth died at home. She left one child, a daughter Mary Elizabeth RUSSELL born 1877 Cork Ireland. Mary Elizabeth RUSSELL married in 1900 in Bundaberg Qld listing her father's occupation as clerk. I have not any other info on him but wish to know more. Did he remarry? When and where did he die? I have found a few Thomas RUSSELLs but without buying the cert can not be sure. My Thomas, from the 1881 census, said he was born Bidford Warwick England.Hoping there may be a relly out there with the info I need. regards Evelyn

Hi all. Just a short note to let you know the website has been suspended. Seems it got too popular for a free site. The stats I got did not indicate any excess but I guess when you are in control of a computer no one can argue. I will be creating a proper site (paid for this time) and will email the address etc when established. The format will be the same and the information bought up to date with what I have received in the past year. At the last count, the original site had about 2600 hits in the 18 months. Not bad for an ametuer. I will take any info during this month to update around end of August. There is in excess of 5 Mb of info already in the file (or was) -- Rob Walters Visit these occasionally: http://www.wwwpar.netfirms.com or http://www.learner.netfirms.com http://www.goodna.net and http://www.itel.gil.com.au for community information http://www.webtree.netfirms.com for Family Tree information is not available at this time.
