dear listers: I am so new to researching in Australia that I need some tips/and advice re using the NAA site. one lister found for me, THOMAS HOPE AND MARGARET MAUREEN, child, emigrating from Tilbury 1948 to Brisbane. Later Thomas was living at 45 Edgar st East Brisbane, 1958, aged about 55. I have some questions re the National Archives: 1. now what? I have the file/accession numbers for the emigration info for Hope in 1948...can I order online and pay from Canada? what are others" experiences in doing this? 2. if anyone has ordered an emigration file before, maybe you can tell me what is likely to be in it? 3. Can I access any electoral rolls for 1950s Brisbane online? or otherwize? 4. Can I access obituraries for Brisbane, also 1960 on? I tried Ryerson index with no success yet. 5, Can I find out what happened to "child, Margaret Maureen.."HOPE"?..marriage after 1950? thanks for your help and looking forward to your replies Liz of BC Canada
thanks Werona, for the NAA information about Thomas Hope emigration to Brisbane in 1948. I did not know about NAA site. After entering the words you suggested, I also came up with the item as you described. I am not sure what is my next action?... and what do you mean by "the file"? is there more information than what you lisited for me...eg, the arrival by RMS Ormonde in 1948? age of child? age of Thomas? where they originated?...do we apply to NAA for the file contents? and is this likely to happen for someone from Canada? I wonder if more emigration application information about Thomas and the child is what would be in the file? would really appreciate your help as I am really lost here..thanks Liz
Dear listers: I am new to this list. I am trying to find information about an ancestor, THOMAS HOPE born Westhoughton, Lancashire, England about 1901 or later. he might have emigrated to Australia about 1948. He lived at 45 Edgar Street, East Brisbane from about 1953-59 and maybe later. I am hoping someone can assist me in finding him either through City Directories/ Electoral Rolls or through an obituary. We do not know when he died. Is there an online index for obits in Queensland? looking forward to your tips on my searches. thanks, Liz of BC Canada

I am not sure what became of Kate & husband George Henry BIELBY. There is no record of their deaths in Qld prior to 1914 (when my CDs run out). And there is no sign of them in the 1903 electoral roll. However, there are a number of records pertaining to their son George Wilson BEILBY, a marriage and some children: Beilby ,george William ,M ,Batten ,Adelaide ,1897-08-03 ,1897/B018779 Beilby ,Myrtle Addie Batten ,B ,George William ,Adelaide Batten ,1898-02-22 ,1898/B061828 Beilby ,Daphne Doreen Batten ,B ,George William ,Adelaide Batten ,1901-04-01 ,1901/ 012067 Beilby ,Maple Enid Leslie ,B ,George William ,Adelaide Batten ,1904-08-14 ,1904/B009069 From the 1903 electoral roll: No : 6081 Surname : BEILBY Given Names : George William Title : Sex : Male Place of Living: Park road Occupation : telegraph operator Polling Place : Brisbane South Division : Oxley ID : 175399 No : 6080 Surname : BEILBY Given Names : Adelaide Title : Sex : Female Place of Living: Park road Occupation : domestic duties Polling Place : Brisbane South Division : Oxley ID : 175398 No : 2 Surname : BEILBY Given Names : George William Title : Sex : Male Place of Living: Bauhinia Downs Occupation : telegraph operator Polling Place : Bauhinia Downs Division : Capricornia ID : 34797 No : 1 Surname : BEILBY Given Names : Adelaide Title : Sex : Female Place of Living: Bauhinia Downs Occupation : postmistress Polling Place : Bauhinia Downs Division : Capricornia ID : 34796 I presume the two entries mean that they moved between these addresses in about 1903, but it's not clear which is the old/new address. Dear Listers We have a birth for Doris Regina WILDE b 1.10.1895 Queensland Reg # B057381. Doris married my wifes uncle Charles BOOTH and died in Queensland probably in the 1960's We have no other information and would be pleased to have some help in adding to or family tree. Charles and Doris were in New Guinea in the 1920's where Charles was involved in gold mining, while Doris, who was a nurse, did work with the natives helping to cure their ills. Doris wrote a book titled "Mountains Gold and Cannibals" about their time in the islands. We have a copy of this comparitavely rare book which is very interesting, although we know little of this couple other than her grandparents, parents uncles and aunts and siblings. My wife was named Doris after her. Thanking you in anticipation Regards Doris and Graham Brittain Melbourne

Hello from Melbourne. My G Aunt, Mary Christine (Chrissy) CUNNING, married John WHITWELL in Calliope on 19 Dec 1923. Is anyone researching this line? I have no information at all as to where the WHITWELL family originated. Cheers, Bob Cunning
