    1. Queensland Bailiff's
    2. Rosemary M Chalmers
    3. Hi Listers, This is not a specific Brisbane question but I am hoping someone on the list can head me in the right direction. I am wanting to find out information on Baliff's in Queensland. More specifically a George EALES who was a bailiff in Maryborough in the 1870's and 1880's. He had a child born in Brisbane in 1871 so there is a Brisbane connection. Where would I go to find out information on him? Any help will be much appreciated. Bye, Rosemary M Chalmers Darwin NT Australia rosechal@octa4.net.au

    1. Arthur and Mary Catherine EARL
    2. Chris Rendle
    3. Dear List, The London Times shows that Mary Catherine EARL (nee CAMPBELL) relict of Arthur EARL died on February 17 1937. She was late of 150 Yabba Street, Ascot, Brisbane. Her daughter, Ruby ADAMS was living in Ascot. We'd be grateful if anyone can provide us with a death register reference and tell us where she was buried. The EARLs seemed to be well to do - Arthur (b. Oxford, England 1854) travelled back to England on at least one occasion. We don't have any info about his death, so would appreciate some help. Regards, Rosie and Chris Plymouth UK

    2. Erin Craig
    3. Hello, List It has been suggested that I post my contact information on your list as someone may be looking for a war bride from World War II. I am the current President of the WORLD WAR II WAR BRIDES ASSOCIATION in the US. We have members from 22 countries. Our membership is made up of foreign-born wives and husbands of U.S. military personnel who married during the WWII era and since WWII. We also include their children and grandchildren as members. The WWII War Brides Association does not have an official web site. However, one of our newer members does have a great war brides web site: http://www.geocities.com/us_warbrides/ Her site contains information about our organization and a lot of other war bride-related subjects. As for my Aussie roots, my aunt in Sydney has traced my Aussie side back to the year 1520 in Newton St. Loe, Somerset, England. My family names in Australia include: Edward Richard ADAMS, GRALTON, ELDRIDGE, LIPPIATT, CLARINGBOLD, WILCOX. My ancestors arrived in Australia in 1839 aboard the "Morayshire", in 1858 aboard the "Castilian" and in 1870 aboard the "Young Australia". You may contact me at: Classicalmuse@sbcglobal.net Ms. Erin Craig President WWII War Brides Association Email: Classicalmuse@sbcglobal.net WWII War Baby from Australia Daughter of Iris (Adams) Craig, War Bride from Australia

    3. > I have tried the cemeteries in the Brisbane area but there are no records > for her. She could of course be still living, but she would be almost 100 > now. Brisbane has had a crematorium (Mt Thompson) since the 1920s and a 2nd one (Albany Creek) since the 1970s and now there are several. Most of these are privately run, and so people cremated don't appear in the Brisbane City Council on-line burial register (aside: does anyone know if people cremated at council's new crematorium at Mt Gravatt are included in the on-line burial register or not?). Anyhow, most "missing" burials in Brisbane usually turn out to be cremations, so there is a good chance this is what happened to your missing couple. Nor do there seem to be records available for these crematoria. Qld Family History has some indexes for cremations at Mt Thompson through to about the 1950s from memory, but I think you will see looking at a later period most likely. If Vyvyenne or her husband died only in the past few years, you might find them in the Ryerson Index run by Sydney Dead Persons Society as they have done some indexing of the Courier-Mail (the Brisbane newspaper). 3. Further to what I just said, if you go to the National Archives WWW site, you will be able to request a free digital copy of the enlistment of her husband, which should include all correspondence related to his service, which often can include letters sent later in life by the enlisted person or their family relating to entitlements arising from military service. It takes about 6 weeks or so for the digital copy to appear, but it's usually full of interesting odds and ends. Alas the documents relating to Vyvyenne's dispute with the tax office are not available for digital copy as they have not been examined (meaning nobody has checked to see if this is a sensitive document) but you can write and request that it is examined (meaning someone checks it) and then if it's deemed harmless, you can request it. She was married to an unknown Hunter. Well according to the National Archives which is available even in Tasmania :-) she married Andrew Ian HUNTER, born 27 Jul 1905 in Brisbane and who enlisted from 1940-1947 and she had a dispute with the tax office in 1959. It's always worth checking the national archives: http://naa12.naa.gov.au/scripts/ResearcherScreen.asp Kerry

    3. Good morning everyone, I am new to your list and need some help with a 'lost' family member. Vyvyenne Zanita Jackson was born in Melbourne 18 September 1906. Her parents were Gilbert Gower Llewelyn Jackson and Rose Ruth Vyvyenne Zonia Stephens. When Vyvyenne's father Gilbert passed away in July 1937 Vyvyenne was living in Brisbane. She was married to an unknown Hunter. I have tried the cemeteries in the Brisbane area but there are no records for her. She could of course be still living, but she would be almost 100 now. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can track Vyvyenne and/or members of her family? I live in Tasmania and so it is difficult for me to access BMD information for Queensland. I am compiling a 'Bryans Family' book and she is part of the family. Her grandmother was Margaret Bryans who married William George Young Jackson. Margaret was the daughter of Hugh Bryans and Jessie Corbet. I hope someone can steer me in the right direction for gaining access to records etc. Thank you, Athalie Taylor Launceston Tasmania
