    3. Hi Elizabeth, Can't help much except to say that anything that happened in Queensland before separation from New South Wales (1859) would be on the NSW bdms. However it is also before compulsory registration (1856) so would be Church records only. 3. Hello can anyone help with this puzzle? We have this new member who has just joined and has asked the following? We are looking for a marriage between a Gordon Law and Mary Barnes, married possibly Queensland so she has been told. Also looking for a birth for a Mary Ellen Law, about 1838-39 maybe Ipswich. A birth for Decima Faustine Law also maybe about 1860's. We found the marriage of Mary Ellen Law {widow] to a George Robb in South Australia. The member has this Marriage certificate, but we don't know about the Mary Ellen being a widow on the certificate. Also on this marriage certificate it says her father is John Zuyaa. The Gordon Law is on her death certificate her in Western Australia. Please, any help will be much appreciated as it has all of us puzzled her. Elizabeth, Esperance Family History Society

    3. Hello the list Can anyone help with this teaser? We have a new member who has just joined our Society, and she has asked this query. We are trying to find a marriage between a Gordon Law and Mary Barnes, also a birth of Mary Ellen Law, born Queensland. Mary Ellen is born possibly about 1838-39, maybe Ipswich. Not sure about the marriage, between Gordon and Mary Also looking for a birth of Decima Faustine Law about 1860's. Should have parent as Mary Ellen Law., not sure about the father, as when Mary Ellen Law married George Robb in South Australia, she said on the certificate that she was a widow. This marriage 1927. 3. Hi, OK....this is probably a long shot, but there is this record: TOOYAN Decima Faustine Birth No father Mother: Mary Ellen Josephine TOOYAN 13/1/1887 (1887/002859) TOOYAN and ZUYAA could be mistaken depending on how you say it. (I'm guessing Too-yan and Zoo-ya). However, the dates are way out! However, it does seem to fit in with a 1927 marriage. There are no other records for a Decima Faustine birth. Can you double check the dates you gave? If you're looking for a Mary Ellen Law who was born about 1838/39, Mary Ellen Law would be almost 100 when she married in 1927. There is no marriage for a Gordon Law to Mary Barnes in the Qld BMD's. The first Mary Ellen LAW recorded in qld was born in 1885 to Jonah LAW & Anne BELL. There is no marriage between a Mary Ellen & a LAW. 2. Dave Whitehouse
    3. Dear Listers., I am travelling to Darwin and then down to Birdum in August next to spend a nostalgic few days at the site of my grandparent's house and the location of my parent's wedding in September 1929. I have an old and faded newspaper cutting of the events which begins... << Popular wedding Whitehouse - Main (George Albert Whitehouse and Elsie Frances Main) A wedding of great interest both to relatives and friends in Brisbane as well as in Northern and Western Queensland was celebrated in 'Birdum' North Australia on September 19th being the first wedding to be held in this new township and was celebrated at the home ... etc etc >> From the wording above I would believe that the cutting is from a newspaper based in Brisbane or Cloncurry as the word 'Cloncurry' is on a heading on the reverse of the cutting above an article on NSW Basic wages. The newspaper itself, from the date printed in the top margin above the report of the wedding, is dated November 4, 1929. Can someone point me towards a website or address of a newspaper that may have been the one mentioned so that I can do an archival search to locate the original article. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Regards Dave Whitehouse Warkworth, New Zealand

    3. Dear listers., I will be travelling to Darwin NT in August to visit the site of my grandparents house and also the location of my parent's wedding in September 1929, the first wedding in the 'new township' of Birdum. Birdum now does not exist except as an historical site and I shall be staying at the pub in Larrimah some 10 miles away. The occasion is also timed to coincide with the local Darwin railway enthusiasts as Birdum was the end of the line from Darwin and for them is therefore significant. I have an old and faded newspaper cutting of the wedding event dated November 4th 1929 but unfortunately no reference as to the name of the newspaper concerned except that with the heading elsewhere of 'Cloncurry', it would indicate the newspaper was either from that town itself or Brisbane. Can anyone assist me to locate possibly a website that would have archival material to enable me to get a copy of the original article. Regards Dave Whitehouse Warkworth, New Zealand

    3. Hi Kay I am located in Massachusetts - my family settled in New Hampshire. As far as I know, Teddy Collins was the only Collins that settled there in Brisbane. He was the son of Julia Sullivan and James Collins both from Skibbereen - County Cork. However, Teddy's Aunt Hannah Sullivan (Julia's sister) married a Herbert V Cottell - I found the listing for their children, their spouses but not their off spring. On the other side of my tree, while researching on my maternal side, I have found relatives living in Brisbane - Olga McDade, a retired teacher, and her son, Ian McDade, a teacher along with Olga's daughter Colleen. It was a pleasure to have found them and learn more family history. If I can help in any way with your Collins, please let me know. I will write to your contact and let you know when I hear from her. Take care and thank you so very much. Eileen kaynkev <kaynkev@tpg.com.au> wrote: Hi Eileen Just realised I don't know where you are - imagine it is in the US. The records for Nudgee Cemetery are kept by Wrafter & Sons, Monumental Masons, St. Vincent's Road, Nudgee. Their office is directly opposite the entrance to the Cemetery. I have always found them to be very helpful when seeking information, particularly when in person, they have guided me to unknown family graves.
