Melissa, There are no deaths where the father is named John prior to 1873, except for one, but it's in 1864. REILLY James Death F: John Reilly M: Honora 2/6/1864 (1864/000068 MAR) (Mar means marine death) There is a death for a Honora REILLY in 1875, father's name Patrick KENNY. Hello Werona I am pleased that you did include it, as I have at least 1 & possibly 3 born before their marriage in 1873 as you mentioned, the 1 that is definite is on the NSW BDM, they others I am not sure about yet, but your info does help me greatly, I have ordered Bridget;s death certificate & see if 'some' of the info is the same, & then possibly I will order the marriage certificate from Qld. Hi Shirley, I think I have found the marriage for Richard James Dutton. DUTTON Richard James married Cecilia Mary CORT 19/3/1902 (1902/001838) I could not find a birth for Richard or Cecilia in Queensland, which supports that they came from the UK. I also cannot find any children born to a Samuel James DUTTON prior to 1890. There is a Samuel DUTTON & Sarah Ann Giles who are having children from 1886. There is no marriage for this pair in Qld, so presumably they married either interstate or out of the country. This Sarah died in 1910, child of Albert GILES & Jane JEFFREY. I hope this has helped a little. I know this will have just raised more questions, so if so - let us know and we'll see what we can find. We all have lots of different resources which should be able to help. G'day again Werona I just had a look at my program and I have the Emily HOWE/James T DONNELLY marriage 'pencilled' in for 1910 but no further details. I had been given a 'family recollection' that she married a DONNELLY abt 1910 and info from a person researching another tree that the marriage took place, unfortunately no references were provided. I will follow up the NSW reference and remove the 'pencil' marks from the entry. Thank you. Dan

Hello again, I had another look around, this time at the 1913 electoral roll. John & Louisa are still living on Lyon St, John has the occupation of bellman. However, Emily has disappeared. There is an Emily Donnelly also on Lyon St, along with James Thomas Donnelly. There is a marriage in Glen Innes, NSW in 1910 between a James T Donnelly and Emily Howe. I checked again for marriages and deaths between 1903 and 1913 in Qld but didn't find anything. I think this might be your lady. Have you checked for the other girls in NSW? If one married there, perhaps the others did too. Regards Werona

A little while back I was asked about my Grandfather, John Robert 'Jackie' Howe. Whilst I had a fair knowledge of 'Jackie' Howe himself, I found I had a very limited knowledge of my genealogy and that such as I did have was mainly derived from my childhood recollections of 'family' stories and gatherings. I also found that, because of my age and placement in my family [a late born son], all of my parent's siblings and most of my parents cousins, nephews and nieces were deceased by the time I started this research, as were all but one of my six siblings. I had little factual or documented information available in such family records as had been passed on to me. Since that time I have been able to identify the names some 200+ direct descendants of my G.G.Grandfather Abraham Howe [b. Abt 1810] and his wife Mary Bendel [b. Abt 1810; m. Abt 1835] extending to their 4th Great-Grandchildren. Whilst the details of later members will be filled in as they become available, I have had little success with obtaining more detailed information in respect to early family members. I have established that John Howe ['Jackie' Howe's father] was born in 1835 at Jerry's Plains, New South Wales. I have been unable to locate further details as to his birth nor any details as to the births, deaths, or marriage of his parents [Abraham and Mary]. I have been unable to establish if there were any other children from this marriage. John Howe ['Jackie's father'] was married in Killarney, Qld on 23 Jan 1860 to Louisa Stokes [b. Abt 1835, England?]. The next two generations of this couple lived predominately in the Queensland central-west areas around Killarney, Warwick and Blackall. Later generations tended to migrate towards Brisbane and south-east Queensland. I would be grateful to anyone who could help me with details or research contacts concerning this tree, particularly in respect to the early members, eg where Abraham and Mary the first of the line in Australia - if not, who was; when and where were they born and married, where did they die; did they have other children, if so who, when and where; any information concerning 'Jackie' Howe's siblings:- Louisa Victoria b. 10 Jul 1863 Susannah Jane b. 16 Oct 1865 Mary b. 27 May 1868, d. 21 Sep 1912 Emily b. 01 Jun 1873 I apologise for the length of this request for assistance but I have been 'brick-walled' for some time now in respect to early members and am in bad need of assistance. I am willing to share my research with any person who believes there is a connection between our trees. Thank you for the time you have taken to read this e-mail and I hope to hear from you in the future. Hi there, If you look in the Australian National Archives.... www.naa.gov.au Go to 'record search' then 'search now - as a guest' Then enter 'Thomas Hope' in the keywords also the date as 1948... then search... You will see 56 matches....click on the word 'Display' and the 56 will open out.... Go to the second page and the last entry is .. Hope, Thomas and child Margaret Maureen - departed Tilbury 3 Septem ber 1948 on the RMS Ormonde - arrived in Brisbane 15 October 1948. Series number is BP23/1 and Control symbol is 5749 I tried to find something else over any year for Margaret Maureen Hope but nothing, then I looked for Doris Gates and nothing matched so then I entered Doris Hope and up came the same style of entry as above... Hope, Doris Muriel and child Charles Marcus Rex - departed Tilbury 3 September 1948 on the RMS Ormonds - arrived in Brisbane 15 October 1948. The same Series number - BP23/1 but the Control symbol 5750 was the next number from above. I think you may have been given this information previously - anyway sorry to repeat if so. I was researching on behalf of his daughter in his first family. We think we have finally closed the story for Thom...finding his death at Brisbane 1983 and he having lived his final years at Hopetoun home/Oxley.... We are now just waiting for his death cert to finalize that. BUT, like any family search, we have had some real surprises! Travelling with Thomas Hope to Aus in 1948 was a daughter Margaret Maureen, age 8 in the company of her mother Doris Gates and her son, Charles. They initially went to Kilcoy, if only for brief time. Thomas was found living at 45 Edgar st, East Brisbane by 1953 but there was no "Doris"...she likely having returned to Britain sometime around then, as her son was married at Leeds in late 1953 and she was a witness. We found her death at Yorkshire, 1975. The most surprising thing is that the obituary did NOT MENTION any daughter.!! but did mention Doris' 2 sons. so my dilemma! is WHERE IS MARGARET MAUREEN HOPE? is there any way to find if she died at Brisbane, between 1948 and 1953? any City directories or Electoral rolls so far for 45 Edgar st, [1958-1965] showed only THOMAS HOPE and INEZ PALMER...because, even if there, M.Maureen would be underage up to 1958, and not appear. some of you may remember my postings of Feb/Mar 06. I sure would appreciate any help now again, thanks Liz of BC Canada ==== AUS-QLD-BRISBANE Mailing List ==== Scattered Ashes www.scatteredashes.com ============================== View and search Historical Newspapers. I am seeking descendants of William Gilby and Maria Waters, arrived Australia from Weston Colville, Cambs, on the Genghis Khan in 1854 and of Charles Freeman and Mary Waters, also from Weston Colville via the Shackamaxon in 1863. The Gilbys settled eventually at Goodna, Qld., and the Freemans at Tallegalla, Qld. Their brother, John Waters came to the Yass District of NSW in 1854 on the Tantivy. John Waters Melbourne
Dear Harvie and Liz, not sure if this is who you are looking for, but there was Maureen Hope buried in the Lutwyche ( a suburb of Brisbane) cemetery on 8/5/1946. No other details are given. You may wish to check details for yourself on www.brisbane.qld.gov.au and follow the links. thanks, we have both those files from NAA and that's how we knew they had emigrated in 1948 for certain...question is, did MMH return from OZ with her mother who is in Britain 1953 and 1975? liz > >Hope, Thomas and child Margaret Maureen - departed Tilbury 3 Septem >ber 1948 on the RMS Ormonde - arrived in Brisbane 15 October 1948. > > >I tried to find something else over any year for Margaret Maureen >Hope but nothing, then I looked for Doris Gates and nothing matched >so then I entered Doris Hope and up came the same style of entry as >above... > >Hope, Doris Muriel and child Charles Marcus Rex - departed Tilbury 3 >September 1948 on the RMS Ormonds - arrived in Brisbane 15 October >1948.
