Hello All, Would anyone have access to the 1860 electrol roll for the Ipswich area? I have been trying to solve a puzzle. Flora Devine married John Murphy in 1850, her mother Margaret Devine nee Jess, married again after the death of husband John Devine to another John Murphy. One of these two John Murphy's, by an article from Queensland Times Newspaper, circa 1923, was the first Mayor of Ipswich and I am trying to work out which John Murphy, was which. I believe that if the address is listed on the 1860 electrol roll, then I can match that address up with the births of children for the the 2 John Murphy's and other documents, that I have. Any assistance is greatfully appreciated, Deb
Chris., If you can find the address, it is quite common for photographers to hand on their negatives and records to an incoming new owner of the business and one can often just go to that photographer still on the address site and get copies of the originals. Worth a try. Hello Tracey, There was a Rose SLOWGROVE whose birth on 28 Sep 1864 was registered in QLD (Ref 1864/000850). The parents were John [SLOWGROVE?) and Sophia KELLY. Could be a cousin or sister to your Sophia perhaps. Hi Laura, I don't have any info about Job, but would suggest he must have been on a lightship called Clermont, as Clermont the town is well away from the coast and pretty dry as a rule, though they did have a major flood in 1916 (I think that was the year). Hi Bill, Not much to tell, but based on the children, the parents will be Richard Henry PATTERSON and Julia Maria CHRISTENSEN and John Stewart PATTERSON and Mary Ann IRVINE Richard & Julia married 8/8/1900 (1900/000580). No marriage for John & Mary. The cemetery burials and 1922 electoral Roll indicate that another PATTERSON couple - John Stewart b.1861 and Mary Ann b.1870 - were also raising a family at Clifton. It is tempting to believe that the two families are brothers. As there are no records of birth or marriage of the two original couples it is thought that they may have immigrated.
