Hi Pat, I wonder if your Irene Dorothy Scott (nee TRYHORN) could be a daughter/niece of John Thomas TRYHORN and Violet Rose Herbert. Parents of Violet Rose were James HERBERT and Martha OWENS (My Welsh gt-grandmother's first marriage). Martha's 2nd marriage was to Johann (John) Kropp, my gt-grandfather's 2nd marriage. Regards, Dawn Quinlan dquinlan200@iprimus.com.au

Dear listers: i am back! we've been waiting for a long time for the death Cert to arrive from QLD gov and it finally did! so now we know when THOMAS HOPE of Brisbane died. [East Brisbane and then Hopetoun Presbyterian Home] and we know for sure that he was the father of my friend. He died May 31, 1983 and was cremated June 1, 1983. [Mt thompson crematorium] age 81 years, ashes scattered. His spouse, Inez Palmer[ Perkins] Hope was alive and was informant. would it be possible for SKS to do an obituary lookup in Brisbane newspapers for that date? or could you folks direct me to an appropriate site for this? this would finally close that file...thanks so much for all your help. Liz of BC Canada and celebrating Canada Day tomorrow. july 1st.

Hi Paul, Most likely you would find the article in the Brisbane Courier Mail. And although not what you're looking for, there is a little bit of history on the Miss Australia contest at: http://www.thespasticcentre.org.au/services/about_tsc/history/miss_australia _memorabilia.pdf Apparently the 1908 contest was a one off contest. She apparently won the Miss Queensland contest in 1908 and was runner up in the Miss Australia contest the same year. I'm assuming there ought to be a written record, and hopefully a photo or two somewhere of these events. If anyone has any further information about her, I'd be greatful. She would have been the final beneficiary of her father's estate which was probated in Queensland and worth about 28,000 pounds in 1908. (Her brother Lt. Ralph Clifton died of wounds in WW1 and I don't believe had any children). The estate was put in trust at that time. She subsequently married Herbert Arthur Montefiore on 1914-07-14 (Qld BDM index.); moved to England in the 1920's or 1930's and sadly died in an air crash in 1969 when the light plane she was flying in piloted by her son Ralph collided with another light aircraft. Dear Fellow Listers, I have already posted this to the Qld list so apologies for the cross-posting. Some of my closer relatives and I are trying to organise a family reunion for next year in Brisbane (probably - nothing determined at this stage - but just a friendly gathering) and so I'm trying to locate the living descendants of William James HARRISON & Jane (nee CHEESEMAN). They and 4 of their 6 children emigrated to Qld on the 'Light Brigade' in 1872. I do not know if their eldest son, also William James, came out at some stage or stayed in England. The 4 children (all girls) ranging in age from 19 down to 8 were: 1. Louisa Jane m James Edward YOUNG (mine). They had: a. Elizabeth Louisa m Thomas Scyling WATSON b. Rose Annie m Martin CHRISTIANSEN c. Alice Jane m William Frederick OTTO d. Grace Isabel m James Joseph RYAN e. Mary Ann m Erasmus WILLIAMS They had three sons, one died as a baby. The other two were George Christopher and James Edward YOUNG. I know they died before 1944 but whether as children or adults, is as yet unknown. 2. Mary Ann m Hector MacDONALD. Knowledge here a bit wonky. 3. Clara Ann m Charles James BROWN. They had 6 children a. Louisa Jane b. Clara Ann m Thomas James FLEETWOOD c. Mary Ann d. William James They had two other children who died young. 4. Emma Eliza m John PORTER. They had 10 children. a. Frederick James m Mabel Jane SEARLE b. George Henry c. Ivy Jane m Herbert BROOMFIELD d. Violet Adelaide e. Myrtle Beatrice f. Gladioli Amaryllis (what a great name) m Kenneth Victor CREED g. Camelia Rose h. Milford Hector They had two other children who died young. Most of the grandchildren were born between 1875 and 1900. I realise this is a lot of names and outside Louisa Jane's lot, I really only know what I have written above but if anyone thinks they may have a connection, even if they aren't interested in a reunion please drop me a line.
