    3. Hi Shell, There is a Pashen Street in the eastern suburb of Morningside (from memory). There seem to be some of the family buried (relatively nearby) in Tingalpa. http://www.chapelhill.homeip.net/FamilyHistory/Photos/Tingalpa-Anglican-cemetery-Brisbane/ Note that there is now burial register available (from the Friends of Tingalpa Cemetery); That is not covered by the other index on that page. For other (small) cemeteries around Brisbane, have a look at http://www.chapelhill.homeip.net/FamilyHistory/Photos/index.htm The search should find your surnames. 3. Hello I am just beginning to research my family history in QLD. My great grandmother was born Margaret Charlotte Hatch b: 1876 Tamworth NSW. She married Philip Picot 1892 Narrabri NSW. They had 5 children. I am unsure where or when Philip died. As far as I know Charlotte (as she was known) then married a Mr Blaine & had a further 4 children Stanley,Aquila, Doris & Cecil. I don't know any dates or what happened to Mr Blaine but Charlotte then married Mr Ferdinand Sommerfeldt 26th January 1910 & had a further 3 children August, Gladys & Rita. I do remember my great grandmother when I was young & have a beautiful photo of her with myself & brother & sister taken c. 1964. I would be extremely grateful if anbody has any further info that may help to put this all together. Regards Heather Bock

    3. Hi,I will go to Gympie Rd in Northgate, next week, and see if the house is still there ,and take some pictures for you.I will need to email them off list though. It will be no problem as not far away and I have next week off and I also like a bit of history.Sometime ago I was looking for the source of my aunt's postcards on several English lists and was surprised by the no of people who took photos for me ect.I will be glad to do it for you as a kind of thankyou to all of them.Shirley

    3. Hi Harvey and Liz, I know something interesting about Gympie Rd.Several years ago I did heaps of research about a murder on Gympie Rd. @ the Edinburgh Castle Hotel in 1889.I had originally intended to write a short account of this for publication ..........but.......I was completely unable to find out where the murderer came from prior to his arrival in Oz in 1884, aboard the Scottish Admiral,(well according to him he doesn't show up on the ship's passenger list )and what ultimately happened to him .eg where he died.So as just an incident it seemed a bit incomplete without the social background.Just on the off chance his name was WILLIAM HENRY WELLS .I would love to find out about this man!!I am still actually quite obsessed with him, and 1889 has become a kind of indelible sequence of numbers in my brain. I also live near Gympie Rd. well one bit of it , and travel it often on my way to work between Caboolture and Kallangur.I didn't see the original mail on this but have you checked it out on Google earth ? As in Britain I imagine that it was common place to call your house a name in OZ.For example my Mum's house in Toowoomba(OZ) was called 'Brigadoon"after the movie. Before we left England our house was called 'Rushmoor'.after the place mum worked in service. My house here is called 'Rose Cottage' because of the roses in the garden, but not address wise.I have noticed a lot of older houses still have the names on them.Usually something which is special to the owners. One house I often see is called 'Kia-Ora'now this if I remember was the first kind of fizzy orange soft drink?Penang seems to have an Asian connection? If I can help in any specific way let me know .Shirley

    3. Hello, I had mum check her street directory and there is still a Gympie Street in Northgate - it's only a few blocks long. It comes off Sandgate Road and comes to a dead end near at the railway line near Northgate Railway station. It's quite likely the house is still there, but whether or not it's still called "Penang" now is another question. It will definitely have been given a number now, instead of a name, however if you are lucky someone may have kept the house name. Maybe you could contact the Nundah and Districts Historical Society P O Box 451 NUNDAH QLD 4012 (Contact Mrs Mavis Baxter 32606703 Fax 32663617) E-mail - nundahist@powerup.com.au Good luck. Hi folks, I think I misled everyone by calling "Gympie" a road instead of a street?...so below it may be clarified that there was a Gympie street in Northgate..if anyone remembers a house named "Penang" on this street, i would love to hear from you!...thanks liz of BC Canada >Hi > >This question has nagged at me since I first saw it.
