Hi Rex, Do you live in a capital city? If so the main libary will have copies of the current electoral roll and if it was me I would look up Marie Smith and then try to match a John Smith at the same address. If you don't live in a capital city get back to me and I will look it up for you. First off, thanks to those of you who report errors in the headstone photos and captions. Thanks in particular to the person who alerted us to some missing headstones in Caffey (aka Mt Sylvia) cemetery, Gatton Shire. As it turned out, we had photographed all the headstones but for some mysterious reason not all the photos were uploaded to our WWW site, so now there are about 60+ extra photos for Caffey available. So if you were expecting to find a headstone in our Caffey collection but didn't, maybe go back and try again -- perhaps your missing headstone is one of the 60 extras we "found". Also for your edification and enjoyment, we have headstone photos for: * Fernvale General, Esk Shire * Helidon Catholic, Gatton Shire For our cemetery photos, see here: www.ChapelHill.homeip.net/FamilyHistory/Photos/ We also have a growing collection of war memorial photos here: www.ChapelHill.homeip.net/FamilyHistory/Other/WarMemorials/ plus a collection of church (and other miscellaneous local buildings) photos here: http://www.chapelhill.homeip.net/FamilyHistory/Photos/Churches/ Have fun! Hello from Melbourne. My G Aunt, Mary Christine (Chrissy) CUNNING, married John WHITWELL in Calliope on 19 Dec 1923. Is anyone researching this line? I have no information at all as to where the WHITWELL family originated. Cheers, Bob Cunning
Good evening, Don Munro here from Western Australia. I am trying to find descendants of one of my wife's ancestors, Georgina Forbes. She was born in Sutherland, Scotland abt 1891 and died in Brisbane in 1966. She married John Porter who was born abt 1890 & died in Brisbane in 1971. Both are burried in the Pinnaroo Cemetery in Brisbane. The last address we had for them was 152 Porieris Road, Holland Park. They had 2 children - John & Forbes. Forbes was born abt 1921, died in 1944 & is burried in the Madras War Cemetery, Chennai, India. He was a flight sergeant in the RAAF. John married we think Betty?? And they had a daughter Lynn. We had an address for John Porter at 25 Bromwick Street, Brisbane. We would love to make contact with any of their family & there are cousins in Scotland & Canada who would also like to make contact. Hoping someone can help. Don
Searching for my brother believed in Brisbane. John Raymond Ellis known as Buck Ellis. Originally from Nathalia, Victoria.Been missing for almost 40 years. Would be 69 years old now. Can anyone help. Dorothy
Greetings Brisbane Listers Again thanks to the invaluable work by Kerry RAYMOND I am even more keen to contact researchers familiar with the ROBINSON family of Brisbane: Alfred ROBINSON, son of Edward and Elizabeth ROBINSON, married Selina MORRIS, b: 18 Jul 1822, the child of John and Penelope MORRIS (nee MALTBY), at Boulton St Marys Church, Derby, England on 3rd March 1846. Alfred (who worked as a joiner) and Selina left Derbyshire for Moreton Bay, Queensland arriving aboard the "Blenheim" on 12th October 1857. They settled in Brisbane. Their children and grand children would later be connected through marriage to the: BARRY family of Ipswich Queensland from ca 1915; WILLARD family from ca 1887; JARVIS family from ca 1870. The listing provided by Kerry shows the latest recording I have of the family being the death in Bundaberg 12 May 1969 of Alfred ROBINSON son of Alfred Edward Maltby ROBINSON d:1910. Other family members also were buried in Tingalpa. My prime interest is currently the life and times of Selina ROBINSON nee MORRIS who was my 3Xgreat aunt who was burried in Tingalpa 27 Dec 1913 aged 91 years. Hi List Just running my West name. Wondering if anyone can help. I am trying to find out what happened to my grandmother's brother & wife, Roy & Martha West. They moved to Brisbane from Sydney in the early 1950's. Roy was born in 1891 & would have been in his early sixties. The last two addresses I have for them are Grovelly & The Gap. I have looked at the list for cemeteries, burials etc & haven't found them. It's like they just disappeared. Regards Judy

Moynihan, Cornelius (1862 - 1915) Birth: 10 June 1862, County Kerry, Ireland Death: 14 November 1915, Sandgate, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Cultural Heritage: Irish Occupation: librarian poet Life Summary Abbreviations MOYNIHAN, CORNELIUS (1862-1915), poet and librarian, was born on 10 June 1862 in County Kerry, Ireland, second child and elder son of Dennis Moynihan, dairyman, and his wife Margaret, née McGillicuddy. In 1868 the family migrated to Brisbane, where they took up two acres (0.8 ha) in an area known as The Dip, in North Brisbane (later Ascot and Hamilton) and built a house, Oakvale, later noted for its musical evenings and dancing parties. Denis and his family prospered. In 1880 Con Moynihan brought out a slim volume, Miscellaneous Poems--mainly love lyrics and epigrams in an archly urbane style--under the pen-name 'Vivian'. Over the next thirty years he published poems prolifically in all of the Brisbane and several of the provincial Queensland newspapers. A selection of these began to circulate in 1910 in a typescript volume, 'The Bunyip of Wendouree', which contained satires on the Queensland political scandals of the 1890s, as well as poems on Aboriginal, sentimental-Irish and personal themes. Moynihan had been appointed assistant librarian at the Queensland parliament in 1884. The position, which he held until his death, gave him ready access to the pioneering work of (Sir) Baldwin Spencer and F. J. Gillen [qq.v.12,9] on the central Australian Aborigines, and to the reports of the protector of Aborigines Archibald Meston [q.v.5]. These were sources for his book, The Feast of the Bunya, an 'Aboriginal ballad', published in 1901 and presented to the Duke and Duchess of York on the occasion of their visit to Brisbane that year. It gave a narrative account of the three-yearly pilgrimage of the local tribes to Mobolon, the highest point of the Bunya Mountains, to feast on the bunyas and conduct intertribal business. The poem also contained digressions on the Kilcoy poisonings of 1842, the murder of the Fraser family at Hornet Bank in 1857, and the celebrated 'recovery' of the escaped convicts David Bracewell and James Davis [qq.v.1] from Aboriginal communities. Three years later Moynihan's Irish-Australian interests were to the fore in an epic of a more classical kind, two thousand hexameters in rhyming couplets (the model was Pope's translation of the Iliad) on the Battle of the Eureka Stockade. The poem was technically very accomplished, but Ward, Lock & Co. of Melbourne rejected 'Eureka' for publication, its subject matter considered too parochial for English or American readers. His last published book, The German Armageddon (Brisbane, 1915), was a collection of short jingoistic poems about Australia's role in World War I. Moynihan died of pulmonary haemorrhage from tuberculosis while swimming in the sea at Sandgate, Brisbane, on 14 November 1915. A motion of sympathy, moved in parliament by the premier T. J. Ryan [q.v.11], referred to his 'very considerable talent as an author' and his 'genial and sunny disposition'. Unmarried, he bequeathed half his estate of over £1000 to Sarah, the mother of Brian Penton [q.v.15], and half of the remainder to her second son Wilfred who had, however, died in 1902, and this portion also reverted to Sarah. These arrangements gave substance to Penton's reported claim that Moynihan, who had been the landlord and a close friend of the Penton family and shared a house with them for five years about 1900, was his natural father.
