Yes, you have enough information about the two people to apply. See here for prices and the applicable forms: http://www.justice.qld.gov.au/bdm/forms.htm I notice that the page above does not explain what proof of identity you need from overseas -- the list seems to assume you live here. I would have thought a notarised photocopy of your passport would suffice though. Does any overseas list reader have any advice to offer on that score? Kerry

    3. Hello Suzanne A copy of a death certificate is $25.50 with the information that you have. If you didn't have the reference info it would cost an additional $16.50. But you have enough information to get them for $15.50. I find it takes anything from 3 - 6 weeks to receive certificates from them, and I live in Queensland, so for the UK you'd probably want to add an additional 2 weeks or so. Go to the link http://www.justice.qld.gov.au/bdm/forms.htm# for more information. Bertha must have died at sea, as the 'MAR' reference indicates this. I am visiting my parents at Grovely today, as a matter of fact! Have you photos of their head stones? That cemetery is just up the road from their place. 1. Re: [AUS-QLD-BRISBANE] Seeking info on Thompson Estate in Brisbane
    2. Hi, Junction Street is still in Thompson estate, in suburb of Greenslopes. Thompson Estate was a single development housing estate (from memory I think pre-WWI). Not sure if it was ever a full suburb, but still known as a district, in the suburb of Greenslopes (next to Annerley). There is a CityExpress bus stop there on Earl Street, called Thompson Estate stop. I doubt that your Junction Street would be Junction Terrace (Annerley), much more likely to be Junction Street (Greenslopes), which runs N-S from Stones Corner roundabout to the end of Earl Street - the southern end in Thompson Estate. There are many non-suburb named districts on the inner soutside - Stones Corner, Buranda, Ekibin, Chardons Corner, Wellers Hill, Moorvale ... most of these are marked on street maps, including Thompson Estate. 3. > As a point of interest where does such information exist? I have tried > searching The Brisbane City Council cemetery search and came up with some > details, but there is much more here. Do you have access to details about > other cemeteries? The information I sent came from the Brisbane City Council cemetery search on the WWW (accessible to everyone), but the material about the death index came from the Qld Pioneer and Federation BDM index CDs I have purchased. You can find the CDs in any family history library, Qld State Library, and a number of local libraries (not sure where you are, so hard to offer more specific advice). However, a lot of people get less than full value from the BCC cemetery WWW site because they don't keep on clicking the links. You get the page where you can type in the surname and given names (or part thereof) and click on "Search". This returns a list of people. What some people don't realise is that they need to click on each likely name in the list in order to see the fuller level of detail including the other people buried in the grave and the aerial photo of the location of the grave in the cemetery. So if you are not seeing an aerial photo appear, you are not going deep enough into the information on the site. Unfortunately the names in the list are not presented visually in a way that makes it completely obvious you should click them, so without that cue, some people don't realise that they should. Kerry

    3. Yes Raymond this information is helpful. I ahve previously been sent some info for some of these people from the 1913 Electoral roll, but this provides additional details. This search for the Hais family is in an effort to find details of Arthur Frederick Hayes( Hais) who did not return to wife and children after WW1 but stayed in Sydney. His wife and children thought he had stayed in England. We now know that this is not the case. His 4 children and descendants had no knowledge of his family and we are now unravelling a whole bunch of them who did not previously know of each others existence. Some of those listed here are his brothers and father from Allora. One of the femaile A Hais people might be the sister mentioned on William James death certificate in 1929. Ther is a mystery of what happened to Arthur's mother Jane Louise. She was a Walters before marrying William James. There is a possibility she remarried in 1901 to a William Hepplewhite. Do you have access to records to see if they are in this 1922 electoral role. Once again thanks for your interest.
