Dear List, Apologies for this being a tad off topic. I decided this long weekend that I would start re-sorting my files. As you do. I currently keep my certificates in those plastic folders with built in plastic flimsy see-through sleeves. They do not hold enough and aren’t acid –free. So I thought I’d buy some/lots of foolscap (which I need because my older BDM certificates are foolscap sized) acid-free sheet protectors (which I have always called plastic envelopes) and some brightly coloured foolscap lever-arched folders. I should have realised what I thought would be simple was not going to be. I am unable to buy the sheet protectors (because “no-one uses foolscap any more” – I’ve had to bite my tongue quite often) and I’ve only seen one foolscap sized folder – black. Does anyone know where in Brisbane, I can buy these things (I live on the north western side and would want around here or in the city) or where, further afield, i.e. another state, from whence I can have them sent to me. I know they are available in England but I don’t want to have to do that. Plus I don’t know how one does that and imagine the postage costs! Yes I have photocopies which are A4 but I still need to store the originals. I do not wish to store them loose in a box as I like to look at them and I refer to them and show to others. I am seeking confirmation of the death of henry VALLER who apparently died in an accident prior to 6 April 1889 as motioned in the news item (refer below) Have tried "ask an librarian " NSW and Queensland for any death notices/report on the accident in the appropriate papers for New England and Brisbane but no luck and wondered if anyone could do a look up of probate records re henry VALLER and/or electoral rolls for that period for either henry or his wife.Please bear in mind that the name may have been misspelled e.g.voller/vallen/waller/voller and hence any info.for him may be under a variant. As his wife and child were apparently living in Brisbane at the time of his death, I thought it appropriate to search the Brisbane electoral rolls for his /her name.I do not know the widows first name nor that of her child. Also would there be records re mining agents in that era and if so how does one access them and what is a mining agent. Nothing found in death records for NSW --------------------------- The following item appeared in the Wellington,NZ 'Evening Post' on 6 April 1889: 'News has been received of the death of Mr.Henry VALLER,traveling mining agent,late of Wellington,which occurred last month at the tin mining claim known as the Hell-Hole in New England,NSW.It appears that while Mr.Valler was traveling at night on horseback,from .Vegetable to Mt Mitchell,his horse fell into an old shaft on the claim named,the unfortunate rider being killed almost instantaneously.Deceased leaves a widow and child in Brisbane who, it is satisfactory to learn are well provided for.' ------------------------------ As the details of his death would have taken sometime to get back to NZ any searches would have to take that into account.(not surre if communication was available in that era or only by ship) Any info. that listers can give me would be much appreciated.
