    1. [AUS-QLD-BRISBANE] QLD BDM CERTIFICIATES
    2. Pam Dale
    3. Thank you to those who replied to my post about the delay in getting certificates from Qld Registry. On Saturday afternoon I sent an email to the Registry office and it was replied to within a short time. They must have been working overtime that day. I was advised that I would receive the certificate this week. It arrived today - nearly 10 weeks since I applied. Not good enough! Pam in Brisbane

    3. Hello fellow researchers My frustration level has reached an all time high while waiting for certificates from Qld Registry Office. I have sent an email to them today regarding an outstanding certificate ordered on 9 May and my credit card was debited on 7 June. I have also written to my local state member and the Qld Attorney-General whose address is - Hon Kerry Shine, Attorney-General & Minister for Justice GPO Box 149 Brisbane Qld 4001 Hopefully others will join me in a long over-due protest at the shabby service offered by this organisation. 3. Hi Jules I'm looking for the death of Mary Harding COLLAMORE sometime between 1920 and 1940. Her maiden name was HARRIS. Her husband Thomas James COLLAMORE arrived in Mackay on the 'Duke of Buckingham' in 1883. Mary Harding HARRIS was born 4 May 1855, Marwood, Devon to William HARRIS and Maria DELVE. Children to Thomas and Mary include Emily Elizabeth, Thomas Henry, Eleanor and Ellen. Any assistance in locating her death would be appreciated. Cheers Jane and Doug Canberra <gregh2@iinet.net.au>

Well, if you found that address in the 1936 electoral roll, presumably that was still its name. In 1956, it is listed as Astor Terrace, so it changed somewhere in between the two. Kerry

    3. Marty, thanks for your response. Yes I am a new subscriber to this list and I did try to look at the archives for reference to Herbert street but at the time my internet connection was giving me so much grief that I gave up in disgust. However, since reading your mail I have had another go and persevered until I got through the whole list. I have no doubts now about the street becoming Astor Terrace but do you know in what time period. Would it have been after the 1936 Electoral Roll? I also need to check the State Electoral Rolls to confirm that address and, also, the Registration of Nurses Records for 1929. Can you tell me where to find those records as my sister will be in Brisbane early next week and will have time to do some research. Thanks again, Llew Hodges

Kerry I have just started going through your Streets of Brisbane, it's a fascinating read. Out of 9 houses of our ancestors I searched for on the weekend I have found 6 still standing to photograph, the rest have gone to units etc. 1934 electoral roll contains many more street numbers then previous rolls. 3. Greetings to all, My Great Aunt, Annie Hodges, married William Bede Christie and late in life they lived in Brisbane. (they are buried in the south Brisbane Cemetery) We have a photo of Annie taken in the front yard of her house some time between 1940 and 1948 but have no idea of the address. Looking at the 1936 Electoral Roll it looks like Annie Christie living at 46 Herbert Street, ?. It gives no suburb. The previous entry is Water St., Valley so does that mean that Herbert St., should also be read as being in the Valley. There are no ditto marks and no space where they should be. Can anyone give an answer or point me in the right direction to solve this query please. Llew Hodges Far North Queensland

    3. Hi, Jessie Melton is on the 1905 and 1913 electoral rolls at 104 Toohey Avenue, Kangaroo Point occupation Domestic Duties. She seems to be alone in the house. There is a Charles (occupation sub editor) and his wife Annie May Melton living at Kyabra Street, Fortitude Valley in 1913, 1919 and 1925. There are another couple of Charles Meltons listed so it may not be the right one. Unfortunately William was deceased by the time the electoral rolls came out. William may be listed in earlier directories held at the State Library Qld but I am not aware of any online. Carol
