Hello Rhonda, You could try the Funeral Director Record indexes put out by the Genealogical Society of QLD. I think the State Library has the indexes but you would need to contact the society about the full records. They have show Frank has being buried by Alex Gows Pty Ltd. The funeral was at a church at Lutwyche then the cemetery is shown as "cremation". I assume this means he was taken to the Crematorium at Albany Creek. You could see if you can get a copy of his funeral notice which was in the Thursday Courier Mail. His next of kin was his wife at the same address and his daughter arranged the funeral. I hope this helps. Once you have ruled out a burial in a Brisbane City Council cemetery, the next most likely scenario is cremation at Mt Thompson Crematorium (the only crematorium in Brisbane in that time frame). Hi Rhonda, you may already have found the information you require but I'm just letting you know of my experience in about 2001. I found a death notice for a person I was researching in the Brisbane press from 1952 at the archives in Brisbane and rang the city council looking for the cemetry records but to no avail. They gave me a name of a crematorium which operated from that time and found the records there. So good luck with your search. ruthflet@tpg.com.au ----- Original Message ----- From: "rhonda maher" <popnana@tpg.com.au> To: <aus-qld-brisbane@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 13, 2009 9:36 PM Subject: [AUS-QLD-BRISBANE] Death notice and Cemetery location > Is there any one that may be able to help me out please. Hello Pam and all, I understand from other Lists that the 1911 census is available at www.1911census.co.uk Findmypast is only a link to the site and a separate subscription is required to access the census. Seems that there is some problems with it, but then we had a lot of trouble with the 1901 census at first.... Have you googled him? There are a number of references to Thomas Henry Booths. I don't know whether they are your family member or not. There are also 43 articles which reference Thomas Booth on the NLA newspaper digitisation site. Again, none of these might be your Thomas Booth. You would need to look at each article and see whether they were your Thomas Booth. Ancestry has a Thomas Henry on the electoral rolls in 1936 where Thomas Henry and Emily May are both Salvation Army Officers at the Purga Aboriginal Mission Station (Moreton, Harrisville). In 1925 they have a Thomas Henry Booth, a station hand at Coreena Station at Barcaldine. Have you tried the Salvation Army for records as well? Anne
Hi Rhonda, I have a Frances William Allwood on my tree who died in Newcastle in 1972. Can you tell me the parents of your Frank William please and I can see if I can find him on my tree. I am descended from convict Stephen Allwood and I know of only two other large Allwood families in Qld. One is descended from Samuel Allwood and Ellen Anderton and the other family came to Maryborough. I have information on both of them which might help. Carol Wood
Hello Rhonda, I can not find him in any of the on-line cemetery records.... why not use the "Ask a Librarian" service and hopefully get a copy of his death notice from the State Library in Brisbane ... maybe he was cremated. 1949 Qld Electoral Roll - Frank William ALLWOOD, gasfitter, living Kenneth Street, Albion. Hi Listers, Can anyone tell me when offical adoptions came into effect in Qld? I have found the birth of a child listed in the Qld Birth Indexes for 1908 however I cann't find a death record for her. Nor have I found a marriage record in the online indexes which go to 1929. For the birth there was no father listed and the child took the surname of the mother. I have therefore concluded that the child was illegitimate as it is known that the mother never married. I have been in contact with a family member who is 87 years old (and would be the 1st cousin of this child if my conclusions are correct) and she has no knowledge of a peson by this name in the family. I therefore suspect that this child was adopted out either offically or privately, hence my query. Hi Helen Thanks for the query. I don't think that they had a business and only one son, Alfred William Thomas PETTY seems to have been in Qld during the early 1900's. The family were born there but moved to NSW and Alfred moved back. His mother's family, WARRENER, where still in Brisbane at the time. I have found him in the electoral roll in 1913 as a farmer at Ormeau. Jan > Sorry Make that Feb 1907.
