I am seeking information on Patrick Barry that married Honarah Donovan in Brisbane 6 Nov 1862. Patrick was a policeman. Believe Alderman Maurice J. Barry may have been in Brisbane also. Some of Patrick Barry's descendants were Hernons and Hartigans. Maurice Barry was in the hotel business and may have been twice Lord Mayor of Brisbane. Would there be a biography of him? Patrick and Maurice were not brothers, but cousins. Believe they both were natives of Charleville, County Cork, Ireland. Would love to hear from any descendants or any one knowing of these two Barrys. Thanks, Helen O'Connor [email protected] Park City, Utah, USA

Hi everyone, I would like to be in contact with two cousins I haven't seen since the 1940's. This is probably a needle in a haystack request - but like lotto, there is always hope. Just briefly. My cousins are Shirley and Valma Crowe and their dad, Allan Crowe. Uncle Allan worked at Allan & Starke's in Fortitude Valley in the 1940's. If you have any information about Shirley and Valma, please write back to me. My address is [email protected] Thank you. Hi everyone I would like to transcribe a WW1 Obituary written in a Brisbane newspaper 1917 which includes details of a letter by my great uncle Lieut. Richard (Dick) HUSBAND (Lieut. E.D.NORRIE also mentioned): The late Frank Russell Jones D.C.M. who died of wounds, October 10, 1917 was promoted to the rank of second lieutenant on September 20 and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for coolness and gallantry and for his splendid work during an attack on September 20. He was a prominent forward of the Kelvin Grove Football Club. Mr H.C.Jones, of McIntyre street (sic)Wooloowin, has received letters of condolence from Lieut. E.D.Norrie and Lieut. Husband. The latter writes:- "It is with most heartfelt regret that I inform you of the death of your brother. It was at about 4.30pm, after successful operations had been carried out against the enemy positions on Broodscinde Ridge, Belgium, recording in the history of this great war, the fifth battle of Ypres, that the deceased officer was seriously wounded by enemy shell fire, and succumbed to his wounds on admission to the hospital that night. Myself, his fellow officers, N.C.O.'s and men of the battalion desire to tender our deepest sympathy in your sad bereavement, and would like to specially point out that the loss of such a conscientious soldier will be felt for some time right throughout the battalion. He has at all times served his colors (sic) with the utmost keenness of discipline, the various duties allotted to him were carried out with a strong soldierly spirit that earned the entire satisfaction of his superior commanders. His recent promotion to the rank of second lieutenant in the Australian Imperial Forces, and the distinction awarded him were the outcome and reward for gallantry and coolness of control in the execution of his duty on the occasion of the successful operations carried out by the Australian troops in Belgium on 20/9/17, the attack launched against enemy position in Polygon Wood." Postcsript (undated): "Lieut R.J. Husband, son of Mrs R.J.Husband, Prospect street (sic), Kangaroo Point, Brisbane, who has been on service for two years and two months, was wounded at the Somme battle. Maybe this will be interesting to someone on the list. I have a copy of the original newspaper clipping with a photograph of Lieut. Jones plus a photo of Lieut. Husband. Bertha Dorothea DUX who also died at Caboolture on the 25th February 1948 Many thanks for any help. Marie Dux (Perth)
Hi Helen. Our BDM's only go up to 1959. You would have to approach the Qld Registry Office for that recent. Unfortunately the cemetery site is down or you could have done a look up for the cemetery. It would probably be either Lutwyche or maybe Albany Creek. It's back on and he isn't on it so that probably means Albany Creek crem on the north side. Unfortunately I think this is privately owned and not sure if you can get info from this to narrow down the time for a search. Dear Listers, Flushed with success and very grateful for information received from the North Queensland List about Mahala and Ernest EARL, we were reminded by Rosie's mum Stella EARL, now in her 94th year, that she was a babe in arms when her Aunt Nellie (née MATTHEWS), born 11th November 1886, and husband William BREWER emigrated to Australia from Oxford, UK, in 1910. We don't know which ship they sailed on. Nellie and Bill had two sons, Albert, a baby when leaving England, and Cecil, born Australia. One of the sons died young in an accident. Stella's family wrote to the BREWERs at Toowong, Brisbane, Queensland for many years, but has heard nothing from them since the Second World War. Can anyone please provide some details of events in the BREWER family since 1910? Regards, Rosie and Chris Plymouth UK
