Hi, I have a great-grandfather John Langdon who was born in 1859-1860 in either London or Sussex, but I think London would be the most likely. I have found four John Langdon's arriving in Qld before 1885 when John married Marcella O'brien in Queensland and all of the Johns are the right age, ie. born between 1859-1863. John Langdon age 21 arrived Maryborough aboard "Duke of Athole" on 3 May 1881 John Langdon age 20 arrived Townsville aboard "Hereford" on 25 Aug 1883 John Langdon age 24 arrived Townsville aboard "Duke of Devonshire" on 12 Jul 1884 John Langdon age 20 arrived Brisbane aboard "Devon" on 5 Feb 1879 Are any of these shipping lists on-line to search or does anyone have access to the passenger lists for these ships to see if there is any further information on these people so that I can work out which John is mine? Many thanks, Vivienne Garforth Perth WA
Hi Terry I found this on < http://publib.slq.qld.gov.au/footprints/site/contacts.htm> - it could be useful - Congregational, Uniting Church, Methodist and Church records are held by: John Oxley Library State Library of Queensland South Bank South Brisbane Q. 4101 PO Box 3488 South Brisbane Q. 4101 Tel: (07) 3840 7885 Fax: (07) 3846 2421 Email: [email protected] And yes, the old church in Creek Street near the cnr of Ann Street was demolished some time between 1966 and 1970 (I think). Cheers Ray in Brisbane
Hi Terry I seem to recall that there used to be a Congregational church on the corner of Creek and, I think Ann or Turbot Sts. Opposite central station in Creek Street. I was demolished many years ago. Maybe there had been a cemetery there. It was a very old church. Perhaps if you contact one of the local churches they may be able to help you. The State Library or John Oxley Library are sure to know about it. Hi everyone, I'm searching for a relative of my daughter's husband's family, and wonder if someone would mind having a look for me for any relevant records please? John Newsham and his wife Susanna Pearson, arrived in NSW in 1836 on the 'Derwent". I'm looking for any births to his couple please. They were married in UK in 1826, so I guess they might have been young then, so the period for the births would be from 1836-1856. Many thanks for any help Best wishes, Jill

Hi everyone, This is not exactly a historical query, but I am trying to trace any relatives of my grandmother's third husband, Cecil Alfred BLOW. I inherited a couple of his belongings when my grandmother passed away and I would really like to find any of his direct descendants and see if they are interested in having these items. Cecil Alfred BLOW was born in (the quaintly named) Fox Ground NSW on 17 Jan 1897. He lived for some time in Murwillumbah, and married his first wife (Jessie Eirene RYAN) there. Not sure when/where Jessie died, but they had children Kevin Alfred BLOW, Marie Bernadette BLOW and Nancy Carmel BLOW who married a MURPHY. In Brisbane in 1952 he married my grandmother, Alice SMITH (formerly BOWMAN, then DURHEIM, and eventually BLOW). Cec passed away in Brisbane on 19 Dec 1969. If anyone knows of any relatives of Cec, I would really appreciate hearing from you. Many thanks, Pat Trewin
Just wondering if anyone has come across any Auliffe people in their research. James Auliffe and Bridget(nee Doogan), his wife, and his sister Judith arrived in South Australia in the early 1850's. Children born to James Auliffe are William in 1856 (New South Wales) and a daughter born to James Auliffe and Bridget Doogan christened in 1858 in Victoria, but in 1859, Bridget married Alexander John Stacey in NSW, and no more mention can be found of James Auliffe. First, does anyone have any creative ideas about how to track him down? (no luck NSW bdm's online) Secondly, what is the likelihood that he was really a McAuliffe who dropped the Mc on the ship over and later took it up again? I notice my O'Driscolls sometimes appear as Driscoll or O'Driscoll, and wonder if this is a common phenomenon in Irish immigrants? Thanks! Carolyn

There is no monumental inscription for Norah's own grave (Portion 7A, Section 74, Grave 15), which is consistent with her being remembered on another headstone. The monumental inscription for her parents (Portion 7A, Section 135, Grave 5) is: My husband & our father Isidore JOSEPHSON d. 22 May 1933 aged 55; also his wife & our mother Nora d. 1 Apr 1957 aged 76. And in the adjacent grave (Portion 7A, Section 135, Grave 4) are other members of the Woulfe family: Madonna Josephine b. 8 Oct 1928 d. 7 May 1929; also Michael b. 23 Oct 1933 d. 24 Oct 1933. Infant children of Patrick & Lottie WOULFE. Also my husband & our father Patrick WOULFE d. 1 Apr 1948 aged 59; also his wife & our mother Lottie WOULFE d. 7 July 1955 aged 69.
I've already received an answer to my question about Norah Josephson's death. She is indeed Baby Norah! Thanks - what a great list! Carolyn

Having only looked up the bdms at the State Archives, I'm not sure if this death will be in the Federation index, or anywhere else list-members might look. I'm hoping to find out if this is "Little Norah" who is listed on my great grandmother's grave (Sarah Woulfe) but who is not actually in that grave. There is also a "Little Michael" listed, but that was Sarah's baby who died of typhoid in 1886 and was buried in a mass grave. Sarah had a daughter, Norah Josephson, who is buried elsewhere, and I am hoping that this Norah is her daughter. Thanks very much Carolyn
Hullo everybody I am looking for a possible marriage of a Rollo or Rollason Taylor to a Lilly or Lillian ? sometime around 1897 and the early 1900's. I would also be interested in any children born to this couple. Thank you in anticipation Elizabeth Bailey Tamworth NSW
