Hi, I am trying to find some information on the Horse Drawn Trams in Brisbane between 1888 and 1893. My G.G.Granfather was a tram driver between these years and would like to add some information about what this would have been like to the family story Any information would be greatly appreciated.. Matt RUSSELL
> 1. In June 1908 she was living at Bengarra River Road, Milton. One more thing. I suspect this address should be interpreted as "Bengarra" (the house name), River Road (later renamed to Coronation Drive), Milton. Kerry
> I'm Looking for information on my great aunt JESSIE ELLEN CLIFTON (nee > BORHAM) and any descendents she and her husband (name unknown) may have had: > 1. In June 1908 she was living at Bengarra River Road, Milton. > 2. She was born on January 1st 1864 to WILLIAM HENRY and ELLEN > GREATWOOD BORHAM at Chipping Hill House, Halstead, Essex, England. > 3. I don't know when or to whom she was married except that he was MR > CLIFTON > 4. My great grandmother, ELLEN GREATWOOD came to live with Jessie > sometime in 1904, possibly from Parramatta or Sydney. Ellen died on 10th > June 1908 and is buried in the Toowong cemetery. > 5. There is no entry for a Jessie Clifton in the Brisbane City Council > grave location search website. The monumental inscription at Toowong Cemetery for Ellen says: Ralph CLIFTON d. 16 May 1911 aged 53; also Ellen Greatwood BORHAM d. 10 June 1909 aged 70; also his only son Lieut. Ralph CLIFTON, R.F.A. d. of wounds in France 22 May 1917 aged 27. That would make Ralph (senior) born 1857-8, so about the right age to be Jessie Ellen's husband. That would make Ralph (junior) born 1889-90, so about the right age to be Jessie Ellen's son. However, here is what the Qld BDM index says about these people: Clifton ,Jessie ,Birth ,Ralph ,Jessie Elizabeth Borham ,09 ,06 ,1888 ,1888/ 011097 Clifton ,Ralph ,B ,Ralph,Elizabeth Furlong ,1890-06-09 ,1890/ 007119 Borham ,Ellen Greatwood ,D ,William Tull Cave ,Harriet Woods ,1908-06-10 ,1908/ 001005 Clifton ,Ralph ,D ,Daniel Clifton ,Sarah Hamer,1911-05-16 ,1911/B014067 Clifton ,Jessie ,M ,Montefiore ,Herbert Arthur ,1914-07-14 ,1914/B015259 There is no record of Jessie Ellen/Elizabeth Clifton dying between 1888 and 1890, so could Elizabeth Furlong be Jessie Elizabeth Borham (somehow)? Or are there two Ralph Cliftons having children around the same time? Is the Jessie Clifton who marries in 1914, the widow or the daughter? There is a record for Ralph junior at the Commonwealth War Graves, but it doesn't any light on who exactly his mother is, but shows he was married: CLIFTON, RALPH Initials:R Nationality:United Kingdom Rank:Second Lieutenant Regiment:Royal Field Artillery Unit Text:14th Div. H.Q. Age:27 Date of Death:22/05/1917 Additional information:Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Clifton, of Queensland, Australia; husband of Ida Kathleen Clifton. Casualty Type:Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference:VII. A. 18. Cemetery:BOULOGNE EASTERN CEMETERY So, I don't know if any of this answers more questions that it asks, but good luck with the research! Kerry

Hi there, You can look it up yourself online if you like. Go to www.couriermail.com.au. It will sort itself out to the news front page. You will see a maroon menu on the left side of the page. Scroll down that a bit and you will see a heading 'CLASSIFIEDS' with a sub heading 'Announcements'. Click there. You then will see a greenish squared off bit which includes 'Start your search'. Click on that. Another small window opens. Adjust the States bit to 'Queensland' and Categories to 'Funerals'. Then enter in the Keyword Search, 'Smith'. It brings up all the Smiths (23 altogether), but it appears that your one is the first one showing. Hi I am looking for anyone that might be connected to the CLIFT family that came from Warwick, Queensland as there is about 3 lines of CLIFT's that have married into one the same family. I am writing a book on the many families that have married into the name GOLLAN/FRASER. I am also collecting info on the GOLLAN's that came from Warwick to Brisbane and the GOLLAN's that came from NSW to Queensland as that are all related. If anyone has any photo's of these family members may I have a copy as I would love to add them to my book. Thank you Regards Jacqui

Hello, reposting my brickwall. John Morris b (Brisbane) can't find records, to George Morris and supposedly to Mary Ann Paterson. John's m/c says he was born in Brisbane around 1870. I have no idea if there were siblings. I have looked for deaths for Morris with parents of the above, but haven't found any. That may not mean there aren't any because of the cut of date for deaths. Is there anyone with a Morris on their tree with parents with the above names? Glenda

Hi Everyone, Apologies for this 'off topic' rhyme, it came via another list, and seemed just too good not to share. Jill The Genealogists Psalm Genealogy is my pastime, I shall not stray. It maketh me to lie down and examine half-buried tombstones. It leadeth me into still courthouses; It restoreth my ancestral knowledge. It leadeth me in paths of census records & ship's passenger lists for my surname's sake. Yea, though I walk through the shadows of research libraries & microfilm readers, I shall fear no discouragement. For a strong urge is within me; the curiosity & motivation they comforteth me. It demandeth preparation of storage space for the acquisition of countless documents. It annointeth my head with burning mid-night oil; my family group sheets runneth over. Surely birth, marriage, & death dates shall follow me all the days of my life; And I shall dwell in the house of a family- History seeker forever. By Wildamae Brestal
