Help please locating Death Cert, Cemetery Record, Obits for John Brown or even telephone number/address for A. Brown. John Brown probably born abt 1885 to 1890 (his father was Duncan Brown) but not sure abt the dates. John Brown was believe to have been married 2 or 3 times in Dumbarton, Scotland. In 1909, his wifes name was Willamina and they lived at Dunlena, Dumbuck Crescent, Dumbarton, Scotland where it is believed he raised orchids in his later life. John Brown moved to Brisbane, Australia and died there in the 1960's probably after WWII possibly because one of two sons lived there. I believe the son's address was A. Brown, 197th Ave. Coorparoo,Brisbane, Australia. Thanking you in advance for any assistance you can provide. Adele Turner North Vancouver, BC Canada
Chris, many years ago (say 1955) I worked with a gentleman called Claude POWTER , his wife was Rene (or Irene, I think). They lived in a lovely old house in Norton Street, Ashfield (a Sydney suburb) which had passed down from the family. Claude worked in the pharmaceutical industry. They also had a house at Austinmere on the south coast of NSW. Claude and Rene had no children. I don't know if this is of any interest to you but it might fill in a gap. Regards, Margery (NSW)

She is the daughter of Charles McLean and Elspet Dean hence my mother's aunt. She married David Grant and they had one daughter also called Bella. It was she who went to Australia about 1949ish but she was married by then and as yet I have not found her married name. A couple of years later her parents Bella and David followed her out and remained there where they presumably died. I have no idea where they settled but I believe most emigrants then went to Melbourne and Sydney. Bella Grant may still be alive and would be about 84 yrs old now. Hello Ron, QSA have downloadable PDF indexes for a number of things including assisted immigrants 1848-1884: http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/research/indexes.asp Some IMM records are missing from 1860's due to floods, and paying passengers are not covered. The card index in the public search room is still the best reference (based on passenger lists as well as immigration records), and there is also a separate index of ships' arrivals & departures, if you ever get a chance to visit QSA. In the PDF indexes, the only assisted BROWN(E)s listed for the Young Australia are: FamilyName Given Name Age Ship Date Location Page M/f no. BROWN Thomas 17 Young Australia 12 Aug 1862 IMM/112 160 M1696 BROWN George 25 Young Australia 1 Aug 1868 IMM/113 13 M1696 BROWN Henry Young Australia 13 Jul 1869 IMM/113 22 M1696 BROWN James 26 Young Australia 25 Aug 1870 IMM/114 24 M1697 BROWN Sarah 22 Young Australia 25 Aug 1870 IMM/114 27 M1697 Nothing for the Planet. Greetings from Kingaroy. My ancestral relative Ann BROWNE was allegedly called "Planet" because she came to Queensland on the "Planet" in 1870. I had thought that her family came to Queensland on the "Young Australia" in 1870. Could SKS find what BROWNE families were on these two ships in 1870. Regards. Ron Johnson.
Hello list, I am trying to substanciate a family story. I have Mary Helen (Minnie) Leitch b1880 in Tasmania. She is said to have married a Mr Barton and had 2 children Bernice and Finis. They are known to have lived in Queensland. Apparently Minnie and her husband were divorced. Some of the family moved from Queensland to the United States. Does anyone have an index to marriages who can search for the marriage of Mary Helen (Minnie) Leitch to a Mr Barton in Qld - the marriage did not occur in Tasmania. Is there a birth of a Bernice or Finnis Barton or Leitch in Qld - at a guess 1895-1915 range. Any help at all with this puzzle would be greatly appreciated Michelle in Tassie
Hi Michelle, I was unable to find a marriage between a Leitch & Barton, nor any children. I checked the Federation Index (1890-1914) and marriages 1925-1929. Unfortunately I don't have marriages between 1915-1924. Hi Everyone, I'd definetly appreciate it if SKS could check a funeral notice and a legal notice for me in the "Brisbane Courier Mail". Matt, I don't have any specific info on these old trams, but you can see some images at Brisbane Libraries website. Go to: http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/uhtbin/webcat Click on "Search Brisbane Images", then "Advanced Search". Enter "tram" in the title search box. Jump to about page 15 of 16 as the time ordering is newest to oldest. This should land you among the horse-drawn trams plus the early electrics (including first electric tram 1890).
