    1. Sherwood (Anglican) cemetery and columbarium wall: photos and names
    2. Kerry Raymond
    3. We have now added photos and names for Sherwood (Anglican) cemetery and columbarium wall to our WWW site: www.ChapelHill.homeip.net/FamilyHistory/Photos/ Sherwood is the largest cemetery on our site with over 1000 headstones and plaques. There are also some headstones in this cemetery relocated from Sherwood Presbyterian church when that site was redeveloped. We have also updated our WWW site so that there are two lists of names. One is in the order of the photographs (based on a logical progression through each cemetery so you can inspect nearby graves for relatives), and the new one is sorted alphabetically by key words in the monumental inscription (both surnames and given names are included). This will make it easier to find particular people in the larger cemeteries. Thank you to everyone who has sent feedback on the site. We are also delighted to hear that some researchers have found headstones for ancestors and other family members on our site. Kerry & David

    3. We have added the following locations to our collection of photos-and-names for small memorial locations around Brisbane: * Christ Church (Anglican) memorial reserve, Milton * Francis Lookout burial ground, Corinda * St Alban the Martyr (Anglican) memorials, Auchenflower * War Memorial, Indooroopilly * War Memorial, Kenmore You can find the "cemeteries" (well, burial grounds, memorial reserves etc) at: www.ChapelHill.homeip.net/FamilyHistory/Photos/ You can find the war memorials at: www.ChapelHill.homeip.net/FamilyHistory/Other/WarMemorials/ We have also improved the layout of the "name" pages to make them easier to read. This applies to our previously advertised cemeteries as well. We welcome suggestions of other small cemeteries or places with memorials that we can include in our site. We will give priority to those for which there are currently no online resources (e.g. burial registers, monumental inscriptions), and which are small enough to be tackled as a 2-person project (e.g. Toowong cemetery is way too big!). Just for the record, the most time-consuming thing is adding the captions to the photos, which takes a lot longer than taking the photos themselves or setting up the WWW site (which is mostly automated). 1. RE: [AQ-BRISBANE] Cemeteries of Brisbane - looking for a complete list
    2. Chris Elmore
    3. Hi Kerry Your email provides the opportunity for me to repost my interest in my MORRIS family from Boulton, Derby, England and Aspley, Radford, Nottingham, England, many members of which migrated to Queensland in the mid 19th century. I hope my contacts in Brisbane don't mind me sharing the excellent research work they have done: "Selina MORRIS, born on 18 Jul 1822 in Boulton, Derby, England, the child of John and Penelope, married Alfred ROBINSON - son of Edward and Elizabeth ROBINSON – at Boulton St Mary’s Church, Derby, England on 3rd March 1846. Her sister, Eliza, was one of the witnesses at that wedding. At least two children were born in Boulton Derbyshire, to Alfred and Selina ROBINSON: Penelope in 1847, and Alfred (jnr) in 1856. Alfred (who worked as a joiner) and Selina and their two children left Derbyshire for Australia. They arrived in Moreton Bay, Queensland aboard the Blenheim on 12th October 1857. Shipping records indicate that both Alfred and Selina were able to read and write. Two brothers of Selina and Eliza, namely William and John MORRIS and their adult children also migrated to Brisbane on the Conway arriving Moreton Bay 27 Nov 1862. Selina was the second of the MORRIS family to migrate to Australia but there is little known so far about the life of the ROBINSONS, apart from the fact that they and their children stayed close to sister Eliza THRUTCHLEY nee MORRIS and the THRUTCHLEY family throughout their lives. Selina died at the age of 90 years on 26 Dec 1913. Death certificate number 13/8/018727 She was buried at the same Tingalpa cemetery, Brisbane as her husband, her daughter Penelope and her elder sister Eliza. Alfred ROBINSON and Selina (nee Morris) were buried in Row D Grave 22; Robert JARVIS and his wife Penelope. (Daughter of Alfred and Selina) were buried in Row D 20/ 23; Henry Robert JARVIS. (Son of Robert and Penelope Jarvis Nee Robinson) Row D 21/22; Eleanor Maud WILLIAMS (Daughter of Robert and Penelope Jarvis Nee Robinson) Row D 20. Information regarding these burials was kindly provided by Sue Olsen along with the following extract from the Tingalpa Cemetery Heritage Group Inc Newsletter, summarising the history of Christ Church - The Great Survivor: ”1868- Tingalpa's Christ Church Pioneers Chapel and Burial Ground was consecrated by Bishop Tufnell. Building Funds had been collected locally, and at mother churches in Bishap and Learnington (sic. perhaps Leamington and Bishop’s Tachbrook, Warwickshire) in England, so the little wooden church serving the farming settlement on the banks of Bulimba Creek was opened debt free, and was possibly the first consecrated Anglican Church in the new colony of Queensland. 1885- Christ Church was demolished by a savage cyclone, and rebuilt, a little smaller than the first and on a cement base, using salvaged timbers from the original church. Family weddings, baptisms and funerals held at Christ church over the years have endeared the old chapel to many Tingalpa families now scattered throughout Australia. 1996- A termite infested Christ Church was stripped for demolition, but saved when both the building and burial ground were heritage listed. 2002- The friends of Tingalpa Cemetery Heritage Group Formed to preserve the historic chapel, and to care for the graves of the pioneers. Since then the cemetery has been cleared of years of accumulated rubbish, graves cleaned and decorated with floral tributes, and some new bronze plaques fixed. A front fence has been erected, and the church now has a new roof and a toilet and storage room. A beautiful English Oak Cross has been made by Danny Sayers, Son of Theresa Sayers who was buried at Tingalpa Last year. 2005- Largely through the efforts of Committeemen and especially Keith Robinson, Keith Anderson and Gordon Voltz, the old chapel is now ready for restoration, when funds are available. Donations are sought to continue this work.” I hope all this is of as much interest to Brisbane listers as it was to me when I first received it from Sue. But I'm still well short of 59. Any others that anyone else can name? Of course, I am not sure what constitutes "Greater Brisbane" for the purposes of this discussion. Being historically minded, I am presuming it is a reference to the merger of Brisbane councils and shires back in the 1920s-30s and so constitutes the area we call Brisbane today. But of course it may be a reference to Brisbane, Ipswich, Redcliffe, Pine Rivers, Logan City etc that constitute the continuous urban sprawl of Brisbane which clearly introduces a lot more possible cemeteries. So can anyone think of any others? Especially the small ones. The family migrated from Scotland. Could it have been aboard the Jumna? - no research to support this, only the month as my Grandmother Isabella is said to have been born on 24th March1901 on board ship not far out of T've. Isabella m Stanley Gray in Mourilyan on 31st Oct 1917, which leads me to suppose that the family were settled in NQld. Much appreciative of any help. Tracey .
