    1. Hicks Family
    2. Barbara Nielsen
    3. I have just joined the list and am looking for the family of Harriet Hicks. Harriet was born about 1869 in Brisbane, Australia. Harriet married Canadian, Robert Walker Ball, on Feb 19, 1890 in Brisbane, They had two children, Norman and Jack. I don't know if these children were born in Canada or Australia. Harriet returned to Canada (Ontario) with her husband. There is a possibility that her parents may be John Hicks and Emma Head. Harriet and Robert Walker Ball separated. He died in Mesa, California in 1934. I have not been able to track down where Harriet went. There has been mention that she lived in Vancouver, B. C. for a while. Any help would be appreciated ie where to find their marriage certificate et. Thank you. Barbara Nielsen

    3. > Does anyone know if there are records available for Nudgee Cemetery? Yes, GSQ has done the MIs. But only on microfiche. http://www.gsq.org.au/services/microfiche.html There are a few online MIs (170 of them) http://www.interment.net/data/aus/qld/brisbane/nudgee/nudgee.htm but our estimate is that there are more than 10 000 headstones there, so your chances of finding your family in the online data is pretty small. However, it is an active cemetery, and there is a sexton's office beside the cemetery. Although it is run by the Catholic Church, it is apparently open to all denominations, but I would think most people buried there would be Catholics. The contact details are: NUDGEE CATHOLIC CEMETERY 493 St Vincents Rd Nudgee 4014 (07) 3622 9696 Fax (07) 3267 1134 Email [email protected] I've never had reason to contact them so I have no idea if they are helpful with family history enquiries. 1. GRANT/McLEAN Surname
    2. Greg Baldwin
    3. G'day Cobbers, Have some information on my McLEAN ancestry on my homepage: http://member.melbpc.org.au/~kennethb/ McLEAN - Garmouth, Moray, SCT>Qld, AUS Below is part of an email from a third cousin of mine, recently "discovered", which relates to the GRANT surname: "Yes this Bella (McLEAN) is the one we are interested in. She is the daughter of Charles McLean and Elspet Dean hence my mother's aunt. She married David Grant and they had one daughter also called Bella. It was she who went to Australia about 1949ish but she was married by then and as yet I have not found her married name. A couple of years later her parents Bella and David followed her out and remained there where they presumably died. I have no idea where they settled but I believe most emigrants then went to Melbourne and Sydney. Bella Grant may still be alive and would be about 84 yrs old now. No 34 Royston Mains Crescent Edinburgh, where Elspet Dean died was the home of Charles McLean and Marjory Wilson {my mothers parents} and Elspet Dean lived with them for the last 3 years of her life. Previously to this she lived at 10 Caledonian Crescent Edinburgh. Royston Mains Crescent was also where my parents lived when I was born so was my first home." Is anybody able to assist me with the surname of Bella GRANT's husband. I am trying to trace this family in Australia but need Bella's married name. Look forward to hearing from any McLEAN relatives. 2. Rose Morrison
    3. In the mid 1950s my grandmother Gertrude BAKER nee WEBSTER had a relation who use to holiday with her on the sugar cane farm out side of Bundaberg. All I remember is that this lady was a piano teacher & she rode her bike around Brisbane teaching the piano & maybe lived around Greenslopes. She was well known, as when the police saw her they would stop the traffic to allow her to cross the road in safety. We all called her Aunty Grace but not one of us remembers she surname. It could of been either VICKERS or COSGROVE. Can anyone remember her & what was her surname? Rose Morrison -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. 1. Thomas Crowley Moxley
    2. Danielle Embleton
    3. Hello Listers, I'm currently researching my Gx3 Grandfather Thomas Crowley Moxley. I haven't determined as yet how he arrived in Australia, but I do know that he married Frances Lydia Knight in 1864 in NSW and they had a child Amy in 1865 (born in NSW). A son, Walter Silvanus followed, and then a daughter Lillian Mary Moxley born 4 March 1868 in Briasbane, Queensland. There were a number of other children as well. Thomas is listed on Lillian's birth certificate as being a surveyor born in London, England (circa 1836). When Lillian married William Stewart Wearne in 1884 Thomas is listed as a Hotel Keeper, still living in Brisbane. His daughter Lillian later goes on to marry a Donald Hugh GORDON - she liked him so much she married him in 1900 and again in 1907! Thomas dies in 1889 (QLD) and Frances died in Mosman NSW in 1916. Regards, Danielle Researching Moxley - associated names of Knight, Wearne, Gordon

Kerry Raymond wrote: > New to our collection of photos-and-names for small cemeteries around > Brisbane: > > * St Matthew's Anglican chuch cemetery, Grovely, Brisbane > Thanks Kerry & David, My favourite burial ground in Brisbane - many of my ancestors and relatives are buried here. I think the earliest date from c1870 or just before, and it's still in use. St Matthews Gheerulla (near Kenilworth) is a sister church - many of the early (1890s) settlers came from Enoggera (PICKERING, SIMS, MCGINN, HOYES, ...). Sadly, this tiny but historic church (Gheerulla) is in danger of being closed and sold by the diocese. Regards Steve
