Hello Marie, I also have a relative buried in the same situation. In my case it was a young child who died soon after birth. I have been unable to find why she was not buried in the family grave but the ability to pay was not an issue. The cemetery is quite near a hospital and I suspect it was used for children who died in the hospital. If you contact Brisbane City Council they may have more detail than that shown online. I haven't contacted them for a few years but I have previously been given the funeral director's name by the BCC office at the Toowong Cemetery. The funeral records often give details of where they died, where they lived, Next of Kin, who arranged the funeral, who paid for it and details of funeral/death notices in the paper etc. I access the funeral records & indexes through the Genealogy Society of QLD Library but I guess they may be in other libraries. I think the State Library of QLD also has the indexes. Hi List, My apologies, as I didn't include any year range in my last posting, all I know is that Patrick and Mary McGarrigle's daughter Emily was born in that late 1860's. Regards, Felicity
Hi List, I am looking for information on the marriage of Patrick McGarrigle and Mary Howard and the birth of their daughter Emily. Emilys death certificate states she was born in Grafton NSW, however I have not been able to locate a record of her birth and thought that maybe the family originally came from QLD somewhere. Kind Regards, Felicity Smith Sydney.
Thank you for your reply Kerry. I will see if the LDS have the paper on film. I just cannot see why Lily, if indeed my Lily, would be buried this way. In the 1913 the couple are shown as living in Friezland, Cloncurry Brisbane South Cemetery would seem to be a long way from there. Really out of my depth here with the size of the country. I really appreciate all the help you and others have given to me. Marie
I have found Lily Wilmot burial date 5/4/1913 in a public grave with an unrelated person. If the death is due to an accident could someone tell me the name of the newspaper of the day where there may have been a small mention made of death. The reasons for burying in the public grave am I right in thinking a death by misadventure or without means to pay. The print out from the Brisbane City Council online services is unable to supply age. I realise I may purchase the death certificate but I wondered if there is any way I can find out a little more first to make sure this is the lady I am looking for. Very grateful for any suggestions the list may be able to supply. Marie
> If the death is due to an accident could someone tell me the name of the > newspaper of the day where there may have been a small mention made of > death. Brisbane Courier (now The Courier-Mail) > The reasons for burying in the public grave am I right in thinking a death > by misadventure or without means to pay. I don't think the cause of death makes a difference. It's far more likely to be about money. Kerry
Hi Is anyone researching Cyril Ernest SIMMONS. He was born on 9 Dec 1908 at Scoresby, Victoria. He served in World War 2 and the Nominal Roll says his next of kin was Kathleen Simmons (his wife I think). Cyril was discharged from the army on 19 Nov 1945. He is supposed to have been a pineapple farmer near Nambour. I think his wife's maiden name would have been Kathleen Edith Wilson. She died in Greenslopes Hospital on 20 December 1979 and is buried at Proston, Qld. Kathleen's name seems to be linked with other names of men, i.e. Bruce Rashleigh and a Williams. Thanks to all who helped so much by responding to my enquiry. Yours aye. Sharon, This is all I could find up to 1919. I could not find a marriage. FAIELLA Antonina born: 26/11/1919. ref: 1919/B057792. Father: Anthony or Antonino. Mother: Guisseppina CASTAGUOLA. The parents may have been married in the 1915-1919 period which I do not have. I can look up QLD deaths if you like. June. Send instant messages to your online friends http://au.messenger.yahoo.com
Wonder if anyone who has the Queensland BMD records (or any other records that might help) could have a look for the name FAIELLA. My uncle married Rosa Marie FAIELLA in NSW in 1942. According to the marriage certificate Rosa was a musician & was born in Brisbane in 1921 & was the daughter of Anthony FAIELLA & Josephine CASTAGNOLA. I realize Rosa's birth would be too late for the indexes but thought perhaps other siblings might get a mention or perhaps a marriage for the parents. Hi June, I wonder if you would be so kind to see if your lists have details of the marriage of Oswald Ives to Helen Darcy circa 1913,please? I am particularly anxious to find who Helen's parents were---and am hoping she may turn up to be an Aunt of mine, born around 1880 in or near Glasgow, in Scotland.---the family was orphaned by 1904 and scattered to foster homes---I have never been able to find Helen anywhere in Scotland after the 1901 census. Would be so grateful for any info. Nancy (nee Darcy)

reposting. Thomas & Elizabeth RUSSELL with daughter Mary lived in Warry St Spring Hill in 1896. Elizabeth RUSSELL nee SPILLER died in that year. Thomas was listed as a clerk on the marriage of his daughter in 1900. What happened to Thomas RUSSELL? regards Evelyn
My thanks to those who have made helpful comments re my earlier query - namely Chris, Werona and Gale. In my original posting I did not give a year - so repeating the query - the "Duke of Buckingham" arrived Brisbane 27 May 1885 and I am trying to find out if James Bird was aboard, and the names of accompanying family. I believe these records are available at the Queensland State Library and/or the Queensland State Archives and I was hoping that someone on the list researching there might be able to help. Alternatively perhaps someone may know whether copies are available in the UK. Kind regards Peter Gardner
Hi Peter Unfortunately I have been unable to find the name spelt that way at: http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/research/index/immigration.asp If you have the year you could look for all passengers on the Duke of Buckingham. A quick search shows that one voyage of the Duke of Buckingham arrived in Brisbane 27 Jan 1884, but I am sure there would have been other voyages. Good luck Chris -----Original Message----- From: Peter Gardner [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 05 September 2005 11:22 To: [email protected] Subject: [AQ-BRISBANE] Ships Passenger Lists - James Bird Would sks be good enough to look at the ship's lists for me (I am in UK).
