Hi List, Could someone please look up for me on the1903 & 1913 rolls for William John Harris b1842 married to Maria Cecilia Harris b1843, for occupation, address etc. I have 1922 so don't worry about that one. Could anyone also look up in the 1934 roll for George Priestley b 1862 and Maria Rosina Kirchener Priestley b 1868, they may not be living together. Thank you to anyone who can help, Jenny
Go to www.raogk.com and read the 'guidelines for making requests', then scroll to the bottom of that page, and click on 'let's go find a volunteer'. Navigate to the 'Australia' bit then Queensland. You will find a variety of volunteers there who are happy to do whatever they have listed against their names. I do photos of gravestones. Good luck, Margaret Otto Dear Kerry, Once again thank you. I have no-one that comes to mind that could do that. I will ask the National Archives. Regarding access because of your disability, I suggest you contact the state and national archives (whichever you need) and ask them if they can assist in those circumstances. Or perhaps a relative or friend could go on your behalf. Kerry
Hi All, I know its awful to say, but I started asking my Mother questions for our Family History last June /July but now some things she can't remember.I had an Auntie Ruby who I knew of but could not find in any records, her name ended up being Alice Yerbury (first & middle name) they nicknamed her Ruby from "Yerbury" I would never have found it, Jenny ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marie Simpson" <mesdts@bigpond.net.au> To: <aus-qld-brisbane@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 31, 2008 9:46 PM Subject: Re: [AUS-QLD-BRISBANE] Re Blue Moon > Hi Jenny, Kay, > I would love to be a fly on my parents wall tonight as I'm sure I started > them reminiscing about the good old times in their younger days. Hi Jenny, Kay, I would love to be a fly on my parents wall tonight as I'm sure I started them reminiscing about the good old times in their younger days. Be careful not to wait to long before transcribing the tapes because we did that with an Uncle and when we wanted to ask questions about names and so forth in them, it was too late. I agree Kay, If anyone wants to put their memories into print, I for one will be lining up to read them, I have read a few Brisbane biographies, but I crave for more, I should have been born 40 years earlier I'm sure, Jenny ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kay Clarke" <kaynkev@tpg.com.au> To: <aus-qld-brisbane@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 31, 2008 8:32 PM Subject: Re: [AUS-QLD-BRISBANE] Re Blue Moon > There was also Sandy Robertson's Dance studio down near the Macrossan St > wharves. Hi Anne, Thanks for the info, so the skating rink was Blue Moon as well, wonder if it did burn down. My parents also went to Cloudland, they went to Electricity Balls (Electricity Company). Mum would sew her own dresses, once she bought Curtain Fabric for a dress it was quite beautiful fabric, but I was not allowed to tell anyone it was curtain fabric. My Grandparents lived in Park St Spring Hill, and I always looked for Cloudland lit up as we drove home down Gregory Terrace. I only got to go there as a young adult when they held markets up there, and then it was gone, someone has a lot to answer for!! What a tragedy Jenny ----- Original Message ----- From: "Perplexed" <awhitefo@bigpond.net.au> To: <aus-qld-brisbane@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 31, 2008 7:28 PM Subject: [AUS-QLD-BRISBANE] Re Blue Moon >I used to go skating at the Blue Moon in probably the early 60s. Hi Marie, Yes, Kay has told me the same location, such fond memories our parents have of the area, my Parents would go Roller Skating as well as the Dances, Mum is 81 I wonder if they knew each other, do your parents remember it burning down? I have ordered "Battle of Brisbane" from our Library, apparently the Blue Moon gets a mention in the book. Thanks for your help, hope your parents enjoyed their memories. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marie Simpson" <mesdts@bigpond.net.au> To: <aus-qld-brisbane@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 31, 2008 2:37 PM Subject: [AUS-QLD-BRISBANE] The Blue Moon (Dance Hall) Brisbane > Hi Jenny, > > I have just spoken to my Mum and Dad who are in their middle eighties and > they remember The Blue Moon well. There was also Sandy Robertson's Dance studio down near the Macrossan St wharves. I'M glad that the old brain is still functioning. I've been having a lot of reminiscences of the Lists of late. I used to go skating at the Blue Moon in probably the early 60s. It was next to the Victoria Bridge on the right hand side as you went out of town if I remeber correctly. And there was an extremely fishy smell there as Kay commented. My dancing was done up at Cloudland. Ah old memories. Annne

Hi Jenny, I have just spoken to my Mum and Dad who are in their middle eighties and they remember The Blue Moon well. Dad's sisters used to roller skate there in their late teenage years and they are older than Dad. It was on the river bank. Coming from South Brisbane Station there was the Trocadera Theatre, Cremorne Theatre and then the Blue Moon. It was there late 30's/early forties up until they starting to revamp the South Brisbane area. Mum remembers going over the Victoria Bridge on a tram and looking down and seeing them skating. It was a skating rink and they used to also dance there. Marie

Hi Kay, It could be, I always assumed it was on the northside of the river, probably because they lived on the northside of Brisbane. I thought it may have been near Coronation Drive, but it could very well be where you said, thanks for the info, might look up Picture Queensland, Jenny ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kay Clarke" <kaynkev@tpg.com.au> To: <aus-qld-brisbane@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 30, 2008 7:50 AM Subject: Re: [AUS-QLD-BRISBANE] The Blue Moon (Dance Hall) Brisbane > Hi Jenny > > Wasn't the Blue Moon the one just over the old Victoria Bridge on the > right > side where the Museum and State Library now are? Hi Jenny Wasn't the Blue Moon the one just over the old Victoria Bridge on the right side where the Museum and State Library now are? This was where the old Cremorne Theatre was and then the skating rink which overlooked the river. On the left side of the bridge were the fish markets - where the Concert Halls etc are now. Hi List, Does anyone from Brisbane remember a dance hall called the Blue Moon? It was somewhere on the banks of the Brisbane River in the city, it may have held Roller Skating there as well. Apparently it burnt down and I would really love to know where it was. My 81 year old Mum who is helping me with my research remembers it fondly but can't remember where it was. I remember going with my Mother as a toddler to somewhere in the early sixties (they did exercise classes there for women), and I have a feeling that may be the same place. Mum would have gone there in the 40's to dance. Can anyone help? Thanks Jenny
